Biology 100 2012

Published

There was a post similiar to this about Microbiology so I thought I would start one about this class as well and will start one about A&P once I start that one if there isnt already ont here. Is anyone taking this class this semester? I start taking this class on the 19th, while I am excited I am also nervous. Just want to have some people other than my future classmates to discuss this course with.

It is a good idea but you might want to reword the title of the thread. Biology 100 at my school is general biology rather than A&P.

I think you may have misread the post, I was saying that there is a similar forum for A&P students and that we should start a post for Biology 100 students which is general biology at my school as well

oops, sorry.

I'm taking it (general biology) now. I'm not liking it very much. I do really like watching the choloplasts move around in the pond weed cells, though.

I'm half way through a hybrid class. One thing I would do differently is at least read through all of the sections notes instead sticking to just one until after its quiz.

I just started my class yesterday, and since this is my first science class I was surprised to see that there is so much math involved. Yesterday was about an hour of introductions, and then our professor going over the syllabus and telling how he teaches. So mostly all we did get to do was units of measurement.

Mine is an 8 week course, so I will have a test every Tuesday starting next week. Im excited about the labs cant wait to start that part!

Mine is 16 week class so we should finish up about the same time. We didn't do measurments at all. We started with very basic chemistry. We are currently finishing up cell division and getting further into genetics. I like genetics better than photosynthesis and cell respiration. At the moment I'm working on linked genes. Specifically, I'm trying to figure out why the gene for white eyes in fruit flies must be on the x chromosome rather than the y chromosome.

That sounds a lot more interesting than what we are doing. Since its an 8 week class we are going to have a test every Tuesday, my class is Tuesday and Thursday nights. Tonight we went over some more kind of basic stuff. Still doing conversions on the metric system, temperature, and other stuff like that. Have to learn the first 36 elements on on the periodic table, and the "tree of life " ( cell, molecule, tissue, organs, organism and ecosystem), all of the steps of the scientific method and what each on includes, ( already know that from psychology) and some other stuff by monday.

The teacher is very good, the only thing I dont like is that half our class is pursuing a nursing degree and he has a BSN and 50 other degress that include a Ph D and he has nothing but negative things to say about the nursing field. He is almost making me want to second guess my field.

Which college are you 2 taking your Biology coursework at? I'm at Ivy Tech in

Indiana and am contemplating taking a biology class before attempting to retake A&P 101 sometime in the future. It may end up helping me get through Anatomy & Physiology the 2nd time around...

I have had an A&P class before, but it wasn't "the right one" so I am going to be taking "the right one" next semester lol. So, hopefully I can survive it again! haha! When is everyone starting their A&P course?

I've already taken anatomy and physiology. My physiology prof covered cell respiration much better than this class covers it but this class covers cell division much better than either the anatomy class or the physiology class did. Taking chemistry before any of the three was a good move. Classmates make it through without chemistry but I'm still glad I had it first.

I never took Chemistry; when I do, I will 'try' to get an awesome instructor! Good luck w/that, right?! LOL

Hoosier, have you been using ratemyprofessor.com? It has been a great help to me. I ignore the scores because I like some of the things that bother other people and don't like some of the things that other people like. I up the odds of getting a good match for me by sift through the comments.
