  1. Well I took the TEAS test today and didnt even score the minimum for my program. The math was basic algebra, percentages, distance and rate problems and I think a few mutiplication, and fractions. The science was hard for me because some of the stuff I knew from my Biology 100 class that I am taking now, but there were a lot of questions that I didint know because they were anatomy questions and I havent taken that class yet. The reading and english were very easy, just using passages, charts, or graphs to answer questions. English was correcting sentences, spelling, grammer, etc. My overall score was 50.0% and for my program I needed 51.3%. I got my scores right away with a print that showed me the types of questions I didint do well on, and where in the ATI study guide I could find those types of questions to review. I will admit I did not study as much as I should have, and I used the Mcgraw Hill book instead of the ATI book, so I am going to get the ATI book instead, and see if I can retake it in June.
  2. I heard this to, my Biology teacher said that many hospitals will start requiring that their nurses have BSN, and apparently KU is the first in this area to do. He said it has something to do with what level the hospital is and the KU is the top rated Burn Center in the area.
  3. Well I am in my fourth semester of pre-reqs and I have taken, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, English, Math 20 ( Basic Math) Reading 100. I am now taking Math 40 ( Introduction to Algebra) and Biology 100 ( Cell Biology). I thought all my other classes were so easy, but this Biology class is kicking my but! I just took my first exame Tuesday ( I am in an 8 week class) and I failed miserably! I got 38% out of 100%! I was in tears! The metric system conversions were so hard for me to understand. My teacher pulled me and the other 4 students who failed the test after class and told us that if we did bring up our grad on our next test, that he would drop us from the class instead of letting us end the class with an F. I am so frustrated, and am praying that I do better next week.
  4. That sounds a lot more interesting than what we are doing. Since its an 8 week class we are going to have a test every Tuesday, my class is Tuesday and Thursday nights. Tonight we went over some more kind of basic stuff. Still doing conversions on the metric system, temperature, and other stuff like that. Have to learn the first 36 elements on on the periodic table, and the "tree of life " ( cell, molecule, tissue, organs, organism and ecosystem), all of the steps of the scientific method and what each on includes, ( already know that from psychology) and some other stuff by monday. The teacher is very good, the only thing I dont like is that half our class is pursuing a nursing degree and he has a BSN and 50 other degress that include a Ph D and he has nothing but negative things to say about the nursing field. He is almost making me want to second guess my field.
  5. I just started my class yesterday, and since this is my first science class I was surprised to see that there is so much math involved. Yesterday was about an hour of introductions, and then our professor going over the syllabus and telling how he teaches. So mostly all we did get to do was units of measurement. Mine is an 8 week course, so I will have a test every Tuesday starting next week. Im excited about the labs cant wait to start that part!
  6. I think you may have misread the post, I was saying that there is a similar forum for A&P students and that we should start a post for Biology 100 students which is general biology at my school as well
  7. There was a post similiar to this about Microbiology so I thought I would start one about this class as well and will start one about A&P once I start that one if there isnt already ont here. Is anyone taking this class this semester? I start taking this class on the 19th, while I am excited I am also nervous. Just want to have some people other than my future classmates to discuss this course with.
  8. I am so excited! I had a bit of a problem with financial aid towards the middle of last semester and I had to drop my biology class before it begin ( started 2nd 8 weeks of the semester). So I got everything cleared up and wanted to take it this semester but it was full. So I was mad because that meant I would have to wait until January to apply to the nursing program at my school. You have to take Psych 140, Bio 100 and A&P as pre-req's and you cant take A&P until you have takien Bio 100. The next application date is in August so I was kind of upset but said oh well I can just wait. I settled for my Math class and Speech instead. Well I just happened to check and see if there were any seats open in the Bio 100 class and there was one seat! I quickly dropped the Speech class and added the Bio 100 class. I am so happy! I cant wait to start it. I am going to be front and center of that class to make sure I pass it with an A. The GPA that they use to determine if you get into the nursing program is based on the pre-req's and since I passed Psych 140 with an A my goal is to pass both A&P and Bio with an A, take the TEAS V and score well and maybe I can come back here by the end of September and say that I in nursing school! Crossing my fingers!

  10. Okay thanks for that info, I am going to make sure I make that call in the morning. If you dont mind me asking where are you taking your A&P class at? I have to take Bio 100 during the summer and then I can take A&P in the fall. If you are taking it at MCCKC, can you tell me who your teacher is and what you think about it? I know you cant post that info on the board so if you can email it to me that would be great. Thanks again for all the inforamtion
  11. thanks for that information, i am so interested in doing this as well to have a stepping stone in the right direction for nursing. now that you have finished has meds provided you with any assistance on getting a job or anything like that? also what was the time frame that was allowed for you to make the additional 225.00 payments? i think i might go ahead and call them tomorrow to see about coming in and talking with someone about the program
  12. I am going to have to do this as well, take Biology before I can A&P and A&P before I can take Microbiology. I would say go ahead and do the CLEP and if you do well move forward if not go ahead and take those courses. In my school you cant test out of the Biology courses but you can test out of the math courses. I have been out of school for over 8 years and have to complete two basic math classes before I could even take College Algebra. Which is okay with me since I am not very good when it comes to math.
  13. Congragulations! Hope you do well in your interview!
  14. Are you allowed to use a calculator on the math portion of the test?
