Took The TeasV today 04/25/12
Well I took the TEAS test today and didnt even score the minimum for my program. The math was basic algebra, percentages, distance and rate problems and I think a few mutiplication, and fractions. The science was hard for me because some of the stuff I knew from my Biology 100 class that I am taking now, but there were a lot of questions that I didint know because they were anatomy questions and I havent taken that class yet. The reading and english were very easy, just using passages, charts, or graphs to answer questions. English was correcting sentences, spelling, grammer, etc. My overall score was 50.0% and for my program I needed 51.3%. I got my scores right away with a print that showed me the types of questions I didint do well on, and where in the ATI study guide I could find those types of questions to review. I will admit I did not study as much as I should have, and I used the Mcgraw Hill book instead of the ATI book, so I am going to get the ATI book instead, and see if I can retake it in June.

What is the hardest course you have ever taken and why?
Well I am in my fourth semester of pre-reqs and I have taken, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, English, Math 20 ( Basic Math) Reading 100. I am now taking Math 40 ( Introduction to Algebra) and Biology 100 ( Cell Biology). I thought all my other classes were so easy, but this Biology class is kicking my but! I just took my first exame Tuesday ( I am in an 8 week class) and I failed miserably! I got 38% out of 100%! I was in tears! The metric system conversions were so hard for me to understand. My teacher pulled me and the other 4 students who failed the test after class and told us that if we did bring up our grad on our next test, that he would drop us from the class instead of letting us end the class with an F. I am so frustrated, and am praying that I do better next week.

Biology 100 2012
That sounds a lot more interesting than what we are doing. Since its an 8 week class we are going to have a test every Tuesday, my class is Tuesday and Thursday nights. Tonight we went over some more kind of basic stuff. Still doing conversions on the metric system, temperature, and other stuff like that. Have to learn the first 36 elements on on the periodic table, and the "tree of life " ( cell, molecule, tissue, organs, organism and ecosystem), all of the steps of the scientific method and what each on includes, ( already know that from psychology) and some other stuff by monday. The teacher is very good, the only thing I dont like is that half our class is pursuing a nursing degree and he has a BSN and 50 other degress that include a Ph D and he has nothing but negative things to say about the nursing field. He is almost making me want to second guess my field.

Biology 100 2012
I just started my class yesterday, and since this is my first science class I was surprised to see that there is so much math involved. Yesterday was about an hour of introductions, and then our professor going over the syllabus and telling how he teaches. So mostly all we did get to do was units of measurement. Mine is an 8 week course, so I will have a test every Tuesday starting next week. Im excited about the labs cant wait to start that part!

Biology 100 2012
I think you may have misread the post, I was saying that there is a similar forum for A&P students and that we should start a post for Biology 100 students which is general biology at my school as well

Biology 100 2012
There was a post similiar to this about Microbiology so I thought I would start one about this class as well and will start one about A&P once I start that one if there isnt already ont here. Is anyone taking this class this semester? I start taking this class on the 19th, while I am excited I am also nervous. Just want to have some people other than my future classmates to discuss this course with.

Biology 100
I am so excited! I had a bit of a problem with financial aid towards the middle of last semester and I had to drop my biology class before it begin ( started 2nd 8 weeks of the semester). So I got everything cleared up and wanted to take it this semester but it was full. So I was mad because that meant I would have to wait until January to apply to the nursing program at my school. You have to take Psych 140, Bio 100 and A&P as pre-req's and you cant take A&P until you have takien Bio 100. The next application date is in August so I was kind of upset but said oh well I can just wait. I settled for my Math class and Speech instead. Well I just happened to check and see if there were any seats open in the Bio 100 class and there was one seat! I quickly dropped the Speech class and added the Bio 100 class. I am so happy! I cant wait to start it. I am going to be front and center of that class to make sure I pass it with an A. The GPA that they use to determine if you get into the nursing program is based on the pre-req's and since I passed Psych 140 with an A my goal is to pass both A&P and Bio with an A, take the TEAS V and score well and maybe I can come back here by the end of September and say that I in nursing school! Crossing my fingers!

CNA training in Kansas City
Okay thanks for that info, I am going to make sure I make that call in the morning. If you dont mind me asking where are you taking your A&P class at? I have to take Bio 100 during the summer and then I can take A&P in the fall. If you are taking it at MCCKC, can you tell me who your teacher is and what you think about it? I know you cant post that info on the board so if you can email it to me that would be great. Thanks again for all the inforamtion

CNA training in Kansas City
thanks for that information, i am so interested in doing this as well to have a stepping stone in the right direction for nursing. now that you have finished has meds provided you with any assistance on getting a job or anything like that? also what was the time frame that was allowed for you to make the additional 225.00 payments? i think i might go ahead and call them tomorrow to see about coming in and talking with someone about the program

Prerequs for the prerequs :-(
I am going to have to do this as well, take Biology before I can A&P and A&P before I can take Microbiology. I would say go ahead and do the CLEP and if you do well move forward if not go ahead and take those courses. In my school you cant test out of the Biology courses but you can test out of the math courses. I have been out of school for over 8 years and have to complete two basic math classes before I could even take College Algebra. Which is okay with me since I am not very good when it comes to math.

Are you allowed to use a calculator on the math portion of the test?

RIDICULOUS RULES!
I think the option of leaving out your transcripts from previous schools depends on the school you are going to. I started school last Spring, and never reported my transcripts from my previous school from 2003. Well once I lost my job I applied for student loans this past fall to try and help me out will bills until I found a new job. When I did this my current school told me that I couldnt get student loans or any of the aid that I was already approved for until they received my transcripts from my previous school, which I couldnt get because I owed the old school money. So I have not been able to take any classes this semester because of this. I just paid off the old school and got my transcripts yesterday and took them to my new school. Hopefully they will update everything and release my aid in time for me to start some of the 8 week classes that start in Marchh. Now on the other hand have a cousin who had an issue with the school I am in and just transferred to another community college with no problem and no transcripts and was still able to enroll and get her loans. So I think that depends on the school and the state.

Penn Valley Nursing Questions
okay, so i have had many questions about what is required to get into the nursing program at penn valley, some answers i found here, some i didnt, so i emailed one of the ladies listed in the information about the nursing program and she replied today. i asked her about the teas test, on the website it says that you must complete enrollment requirements one to six before you can take the teas but number six on that list is the teas so i wondered if there was a second entrance exam required. second i asked about the compass test requirement. i already took the compass and completed the classes needed based on those scores and wanted to know if i needed to retake those classes if my scores where the same. lastly i asked her what is the minimum number of total points (1-7) that you can have to be excepted. so here are her answers, so hopefully this helps everyone. if you want to know who i emailed please pm me! thank you for your interest in our program. with regard to the teas testing. when you viewed the information, we were in the process of updating information. the teas is the only entrance test required and it is required before application to the program. if you took the teas four years ago, then you probably took the teas 4.0 and now the test is the 5.0 version and must be taken again as the test has a different composition. if you desired to take it with mcc, you would need to contact the nursing office and schedule an appointment. the cost of the test is 40.00 and you would need to bring a picture id and receipt of payment on the day you scheduled to take the exam. the office number is 816-604-4175. there is not a minimum number of points needed for admission as the number of points for admission changes with each application period. we have in the past had students with point rankings as low as 4.75 be accepted into the program. it depends on how many students apply and what they have completed for admission. if you have taken the compass and it needs to be retaken, as long as you have completed the developmental courses for the compass scores you receive, you will not need to retake the courses. for example, if you scored a 38 in algebra and took math 40, but then retook the compass and scored 34, as long as math 40 was completed with a "c" or better, you would be fine. the compass requirement for the rn program is now 60 which requires the completion of math 110. i hope i have answer all of your questions, but if you need further information. please feel free to contact me and i will do my best to assist you!

Summer Classes a Good Idea?
I agree that they are both fast paced courses, but my school accepts nursing students the first week of September and while Microbiology is not a pre req, we still get extra points for already taking it and passing it to get in the program so I am taking the chance

Summer Classes a Good Idea?
I plan to take my A&P class this summer as well, Im sure its a shorter class too, do you think that it was harder taking it in the summer than in the fall or spring? I am also pairing it with Microbiology if that available this summer

Took the TEAS today and...
Is it best to purchase the study material on the ati website or some other materiall? I searched on Amazon last night and seen a few study guides that might be helpful. The last time I took the test was about 4 years ago and at that time my school offered a workshop a week or so prior to the test, but none of the stuff we went over was on the actual test

TEAS test study ideas
Just found out that I may have to take the TEAS test before apply to the nursing program at my school, so I want to know has anyone already taken it and what would ou suggest as one of the best study guides to use? I took it a few years back but didint do well enough on the math portion so I am sure I need to spend a lot of time on that part, but I was just wondering has anyone taken it recently and what study guide would you reccommend
