Biology and Chemistry

Has anyone taken biology and chemistry at the same time? If so, how difficult was it?

Thanks,

JJN1

I was a biology major, so we took multiple chemistry, biology, and math classes together...the difficulty will depend on how much you keep up with the reading and assignments, and how much time you can dedicate to learning the material. I found the basic sciences (biology 1, general chem, etc) to be a lot of memorization, but they were not too difficult to take together!

There are a few of us taking a biology (anatomy) and chemistry together this fall. So I can't tell you how hard it will be but you won't be alone.

Thanks for the replies I am going to take them this fall as well. Both are the basic classes will do A&P I in the spring, A&P II summer and Micro next to finish up prereqs!!!

At my school it is required that you do both of them at the same time! Sound lame? Actually it was really well planned out by the teachers so the classes overlaped a lot. I found myself studying the same exact thing from different angles all term long. If you can get that same sort of deal, then go for it.

I took A&P and Chem at the same time. It wasn't difficult, but it was occasionally stressful when I had an exam in both classes on the same day! Time management rules... :)

I have not but I wouldn't foresee it being too difficult.

I would buy a basic chem book and review with the practices exercises to get a good head start so that way, If I were to fall behind in studying, I would technically be on pace with the class.

Chem would help with bio a little, and maybe even more with physiology.

They are too entirely different subjects. As my general rule of thumb.. any course can be an A if you pre-study the material on the syllabus, get ahead of the class, and use the lecture as a review tool NOT as your sole learning time.

Study the night before, go to lecture "hear" the material, and then review. Everynight keep scanning previous notes so you won't have to cram for tests & finals.

Finals = "FK" I never actually learned "SHT"

So don't make that true. =]

I took inorganic, organic, and biochem with microbiology and a human growth and development class (psych), it was not a cup of tea, I did have to work at it; but I still had a 4.0 for the semester. (I wasn't working either)

I took Biology and Chemistry together, and honestly it's not hard. Just keep up with reading, studying and homework...and you'll be fine! That semester, I got an A in Biology, B in Inorganic Chem. The next semester I took Physiology and Organic Chemistry--got A's in both. As long as you are motivated enough, you can do well.

Wow that is very encouraging. I need A's in both my chem and a&p to boost my gpa. If I split 1 A and 1 B it will stay the same. If I get 2 B's it will drop. I really want 2 A's and I feel like if I study really hard it might be possible in A&P but in chemistry I feel like there is no hope. I remember really stuggeling in highschool in chem and only getting a C. But that might also be because I skipped class alot so I could smootch :kiss with boys. LOL. That was 12 years ago, I am praying I can reach my goals. Thanks for the encouragement.

I took Chem & Bio at the same time Fall '08. I was working Mon-Fri 9-5 with classes at night. It was hard. Like the other poster said, some of the material did overlap, which was good...but not all of it did. If you have no other choice and you are a good (disciplined) student, it will be OK. If you have to work/have kids, etc. Try to space it out a little so you don't stress yourself out to much. I'm not sure where you're from, but there might be a waiting list for your program anyway, no?

Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies, I'm in NM and there is a wait at 1 school and 2 others that are semester by semester acceptance. I'm going to take them and will be my only classes so I should be able to handle it with work as well.
