I did something that many people think is stupid. I signed up for Chemistry 101 and Biological Science 201 (introduction to biology). The only other class I have is art. Anyway, a few people have said that this is too hard (non-nurse majors), but I think if I can't handle juggling two basic sciences right now, how am I ever going to manage it in nursing school when it's one hundred times harder? If I don't take both right now, it'll take me too long to graduate, because BioSc201 is a pre-req for Anatomy, and Anatomy is only offered in fall (and Anatomy is a pre-req for Physiology, etc so I wouldn't get done with my pre-req's forever). I plan on studying for many hours each day. My husband and I only share on car right now, so I spend all my day on campus. My study time will be at least four hours a day at the campus. I felt confidant in myself signing up for these two classes (I did have Chem in high school and thought I did very well) and I am currently reading supplemental books about Biology (I just finished taking a Nutrition class that had both biological and chemistry elements, so I familiar with many of the processes and defintions in biology already).
I just wanted everyone else's opinion on this. Do you think I've set myself up for failure? Anyone else ever take two lab sciences in one quarter? Anyway, I just need a little support here. Any links or studying websites that you've used, etc, would be useful too! Thanks!
P.S. I haven't posted in a long time, but I feel like I've come a long way since first starting this board. When I first registered, I wasn't even attending college yet and now I'm almost a year into taking my pre-req's! Yay!

I took Micro and Chemistry together and got A's in both...trust me, if I can do it - you definitely can!!! :)

You'll do fine, especially if you've got high school chemistry already.
Good luck!

You'll do fine...especially since you have lots of time to study. I'm taking my intro to Chem class this semester and it's very difficult for me. I'm just not getting it...it's nothing like high school! I'm actually looking forward to taking A&P II next semester. Sure, it's challanging, but I'll actually understand what's going on. Lots of luck to you...

It's very doable. I took A & P I & Intro to Chem along with another class one semester and then A & P II & General Chem I along with other classes the next semester. I did fine in all of them. Since you'll have a lot of study time, the chances of you doing great are pretty high :)

I just want to echo what the others have said. I am taking Anat/Phys I, Chem I, Statistics, and Nutrition all in one semester. It's very doable especially since you have the study time. Good luck!

As long as you can devote the required study time, then it's doable.
I understand what you mean about if you can't handle it now, how can you handle the nursing program.
I am taking 1 class at a time (short terms, open-enrollments, and 1 full semester class). However, on the 21st I'll be taking 2 classes, 1 is A&P1, and the other is DEV PYCH, which is a month long.
Good luck to you, and me! LOL

Hi,
Consider the source first, are these people whose opinions you regard highly or are they merely naysayers?
I think it is realistic and possible. You are not alone, many of us have doubled up on sciences and really sweated them out. I took my A&P II and Organic Chemistry both in an eight week summer semester. On top of that I also had a busy life schedule. We fit in what our schedule demands. Yes, it will be stressful but, it is worth it, (I think). Besides, what in life that is worthy IS super easy?? Also, wouldn't you want more than 'just' an easy life/school schedule/anything?

Yup definitely doable! I can't remember what I took when taking those 2 classes, but it was a large number of units and I did fine.
I am happy to say that I carried the info with me too... I'm now taking Physiology and Microbiology and am earning an A in both classes.
I am careful to keep my studying up, transcribe my notes immediately and to make my practice tests for each class as I go. I have 2 lectures (total of 7 hours) plus 3 labs (total of 9 hours) each week. Mondays are 14 hour days with a couple of breaks between classes when I study at school. It seems to be working for me.
As long as you keep up the studying, you will be fine!:) Then you can have the satisfaction of knowing you CAN handle a heavier load.

Intro to chem is easy...compared to Gen chem so dont sweat it and so it intro to bio compared to Gen bio....and i say gen, i dont mean for science majors which are even more difficult......you should pass with at least B's if you have that amount of study time......
Thank you so much for the support and tips! I was just feeling a little stressed but I know if I put the time in to study, I'll do a great job! :)
