Biology is a B

I am so frustrated I want to cry. We are on the last chapter of chemical biology and I am losing it. I am reading the material but I can't comprehend al these freaking molecules, shapes, formulas and functions.

I hope it gets better, as we move on. I feel like giving up already, how the hell are we expected to remember all the chemical reaction. My instructor sucks, she doesn't use any power point slides or any type of presentation. She walks back and forth, talking briefing about each chapter.

Unbelieveable! I started this semester with such determination and enthusiasm but now I feel so deflated :sniff:

Did you take chemistry before biology class? I didn't and I struggle with first unit of chemical biology. I cried, I was angry with myself and REALLY nervous all the time. Every day I spent 5-6 hours trying to understand and memorize all that stuff. I got 80 out of 100 on my first exam. I was happy about it! :)

Do not freak out... Focus on studying and try to do your best. After chemical biology unit the biology class is more into real biology; you will start learning about all that real fun stuff like cells and genetics. So, even I was struggling with first unit I finished the class with an A.

You will do fine! :)

No I didn't take chemistry. Thanks for the encouragement, the other frustrating thing is labs. The professior is not offering any open lab days for you to practice what you learned. We have lab once a week, learn new material and expect to remember the exercises. This sucks. I really pray to get through this. I am trying to study as much as possible but working full time and studying for Med Term also is kicking my butt.

Thanks anyway for sharing your experience.

Do you have your own lab notebook? Maybe try to take some picture everything what you are doing in the lab and notes with every tiny detail. It may help a lot.

Specializes in ED, ICU, PACU.

I googled biochemistry lecture notes and this came up

http://www.una.edu/faculty/aecrews/Biochemistry/LectureNotes.htm

There are more results and some of them include power points.

maybe that can help you

yes, we have a lab notebook. Also, I am creating on own notes, writing down the steps to each procedures in my own words, sort of creating a cheat sheet.

I will definately check this out. Also, I am using the onlne tool that came with the text. I am taking the practice exams and using the review notes for each subject. So far I haven't done that bad but this last chapter is over my head. Thanks for the link

Don't get discouraged, even though I know that's easier said than done. I'm taking chem right now, and the instructor is just like how you described, completely scatter-brained and just terrible. A friend of mine who just got into NS said she tried to take chem with that instructor and had to drop the class it was so bad, and she's a straight-A student. I now sit with a B, and it makes me just want to pull my hair out. :( Trust me, I KNOW the feeling.

I keep telling myself, don't let this set you back. There's a lot of great resources and study guides out there, just try taking a deep breath and keep going. I have to do the same.

We can do this!! :D
