Bio and A&P advice, and students working full time.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I take many of my prereqs online. By may I should be training to become a CNA and trying to find a part time LPN program that I can work into my schedule. I took Bio in high school and enjoyed it greatly, however that was a good three or four years ago and I want to take it as a refresher because I've been told you should have a strong knowledge of bio to help you succeed in A&P. So, do you think it's too much for a part time student to take both at once? On top of trying to start as a CNA? Do you think both online is realistic? Or is my old background in bio going to be enough?

Also, how many of you work full time and are going to nursing school. How do you succeed? Do you take classes full time or part time?

I don't care if it takes me longer to become a nurse part time, I can't afford to stop working full time. There's no chance. But I don't hear of many other students who do it.

Your high school bio should be enough. Don't get scared. You'll be fine.Just take A&P as soon as possible.

I'm curious to see the responses on working as a CNA full time and being in school as I have considered this also to get some patient care experience. I am currently working full time as a medical editor and starting school part time to take pre-reqs 2 classes a semester this fall. I also cannot afford to quit my job right now, as I intend on quitting once pre-reqs are done and taking a loan to do an ABSN program and I can't imagine that working during that would be smart. Either way, I'm in the working full time boat. It's doable, I did it before starting grad school. Time management and continuously keeping the end goal in sight. Good luck!

I'm a single mom with 4 daughters (15, 8, and 7yr. old twins), I work full-time, and am in a long-term relationship. I'll be starting my 3rd qtr. next month (just took my last final today!!). Each qtr. I take a full load..helps w/financial aid & student loans....and it's hard. Very hard, but I somehow get it done. I have a 4.0 for the 2nd qtr. in a row (yay me!). I took Bio my first qtr, just finished up with an A in A&P1 and will be in A&P2 next qtr. I seriously had to study; the lab practicals which were a big portion of our grade covered memorization of the bones and the one I took yesterday covered muscles, cranial nerves, etc.. I was going to take Math, A&P2, and History next qtr, but after this qtr, I think I'll swap History for a simple elective so I can focus on A&P2.

Like I said, it is HARD, but possible. You'll laugh, cry, and sometimes wonder just what in the &%%# you're doing all this for, but you'll make it. I'm anticipating acceptance into a ADN program to begin next Fall. At that point, I'll cut back & live on student loans if I have to because I don't know how possible it is to succeed in the nursing program, have a family, and work over 40 hours a week.

Good luck!
