Bike commuters?

Published

Anyone here ride a bike to work?

I'm really interested in stories, experiences, etc.

I graduate in a few months and I'm seriously considering moving as close to my hospital as possible, so that I can commute on a bike. I don't live in the best bike-friendly place, but it is doable.

Just the thought of so much hard earned money going towards gas, as well the state of the environment just makes me angry!!

Anyone?

How do you do it, especially if you live in the south where it is hot--do you have a place to make yourself look presentable after the ride (ie--not sweaty and disgusting)?

Thanks everyone:)

Plus, if you wear a helmet (I do), you just about have to do something with your hair, and for me it is a wash and fix sort of need.

Yeah, I suffer from helmet head hair, too. Better than than squashed squished brains on the road.

With the national average for gas about to hit $4.00/gal, I think this thread should be bumped:)

I biked to work for 6 months. It was 11 miles round-trip, and I loved it. I now work about 3 miles from home, and I plan to start biking again in the summertime.

I ride most of the time, weather permitting. 6.1 miles each way. It's downhill on the way there, so I'm not sweaty when I arrive. I pack scrubs in a backpack, my shoes stay in my locker. I change when I get there and again before I leave. I work nights, so I watch the sun come up as I ride home, get a good workout on my up hill ride back, get home, take a hot shower and sleep well. We have 20" of snow on the ground now, so mu bike is hanging in the garage until Spring. I ride a mountain bike b/c I live int he mountains, lol, and much of my ride is on trails, not on paved roads.
