Okay,
I just got my acceptance letter in the mail today!!
I was going totally mental with anxiety, checking this board several times a day to see when people were hearing back, compared to when they had applied and what their stats were. I was also very nervous about how I had done on the TEAS, so I wanted to post my info to help other people a little. Here are my stats:
I applied to the school January 4th, 2010. I took the TEAS January 23rd, 2010.
Previous BA degree in anthropology. I graduate in August of 2009 with a 3.46 cumulative GPA.
I took A&P I last fall, at Gateway: B
Developmental Psych: A
TEAS: 81.2% (mean national was 72.8% and the mean for the program 73.3%)
My adjusted individual scores were as follows:
Reading: 82.5%
Math: 82.2%
Science: 70%
English: 85.5%
In all my nervousness, I called two days ago and was told that I would likely hear back from the in school 4-6 weeks. Then I got my letter today, February 5th. For the record, my admissions essay was based on a CNA training course I took in the fall and I also think that having a previous BA really helped, especially in seeing past that nasty 70% in the science section of the TEAS.
Good luck and I hope this information was helpful, or at least of interest, to some of you!!

You are correct I was trying to post to the CT one not sure how I didn't I just hit reply. Where did I end up posting at? LOL. Congratulations on getting into the BHSN program that is awesome. I can't wait for the day that I can say that. Thank you for all your info. I am definitely going to be retaking the TEAS. I to tanked in the Math. Math is not my strong subject by far. I am going to have to really study my butt off so I can do better.
Thank you again for responding and providing the info you did. Goodluck!!!
OK, here's one for you guys. Let's get your input on this one.* *I've been taking courses part time the last 3 years at HCC, the same courses for the BHSN program. *Have all but Micro, Pub. Speaking, and Child Psych left (taking Micro&P.S. this semester, Child Psych in the spring).* I got A's in both A&P 1+2, A's or A-'s in other courses. *Got a 91 on the TEAS. *Went to school 20 years ago for a science but did not graduate.*
* * Here's my situation: in 2006 I divorced. *Badly. *Started dating a girl in 2007. *Was taking 3 courses: Micro, Pub. Speaking, and Child Psych (while working full time on the night shift). *She dumped me w/out warning. *There were 2 or 3 other family issues at that same time, all while I was working nights, which makes everything twice as sucky. *I do the tailspin thing for a month (in retrospect, I wasn't really ready to date). *I was still paying off old student loans, and didn't withdraw because I wanted them to remain in deferment. *Thing was, I bombed all 3 courses royally.* *
* Now my 3.8 or 3.9 is a 2.6... * I know that the higher of two grades will be used for computing the GPA. *I'm counting on A's for the 3 courses (well, maybe a B in Micro). *I'll be able to bring the GPA back up to 3.8 or 3.9. *Question is, how do y'all think this will look on a transcript? *I am planning on applying this Jan for 2011, hoping for A's in 2/3 of the courses by the time they decide(the Child Psy. will have to wait for the Spring).
Opinions?
i just started in september and i know it is really competitive. they told us that there was over 700 applicants for 120 spots. first off i would apply the first day the application opens. they have a rolling admission and if you apply in november you can get accepted in december or january. i applied last year in jan. thinking that it was before the deadline so i would be ok and i didnt get my acceptance letter until the last week of may and some didnt get in until june or july. im thinking since you have a good teas test and that your gpa was good besides those classes that if you get a good grade the second time they will see that you are really good student but you just had a one time problem... not like you tried as hard as you could and got a d or f. i would try really hard to get a's..i think that micro was easier than a&p so if you got an a in that you can get an a in micro! make sure everything in your application is there and write a great essay and i think that you have a chance! they look at everything not just one thing so i think your all around good just one little mistake. goood lucckk!!

I think you meant to post this in the CT community college board. However, having also been accepted at NVCC this year I can tell you that I only got an 84 on my TEAS but had an A in AP1 and had all A's in the courses I took within the last 2 years, which I think is how they derive your GPA. I would definitely try to retake the TEAS since that is really the only thing you can change at this point. Plus, now that you know what to expect it may be easier for you. You have to wait 40 days or so in order to retake. Also, another thing to consider is that half of those accepted will be based off of a lottery system. So as long as you have all the requirements for entry you have a decent chance of getting into one of the CC's. I would also recommend applying to Bridgeport Hospital's nursing program since they take all your credentials into consideration. My overall GPA is probably around a 3.4 like you, and I was accepted to BHSN and will be attending there in the Fall.
I wish you the best of luck in the application process. :)
