GRRR!! I called Mount Sinai's HR last week Wednesday where they happily informed me of a weekly open house where healthcare professionals could come and fill their applications with an on the spot interview. I was too happy, especially with 2 months of rejection as a new graduate. I drove about an hour for this interview put all my ducks in a row and everything. I walked into a room of 20+ people filling applications and I thought, great! This is really happening. The girl at the desk was very unprofessional. She was having a loud coversation with another rep about her weight and the gym, etc. She was even on her cell phone talking badly about the hospital. Something like "yea, they're always on your back. They did that to such and such but you should be fine" etc. I noticed everyone who got up to turn in their completed application was leaving and the rep was appologizing for the nurse recruiter not being there. So, when I brought up my application I ask if an interview was still garanteed just at a later date to which she told me someone would review my application and call me. I wanted to know if that was a definate, she could not say. So I asked for the name, phone number, email of the recruiter to follow up, she said she she couldn't give the email but wrote down HRs number. So again I asked for a name, which I finally got. When I got home I called HR to leave a message for the nurse recruiter since she didn't show up to conduct the interviews just to be told she was in the HR office in the middle of an interview!!! Once I revealed that I had been to the job fair that day and was told the recruiter would not be making it I started getting those "ums" and "ahhs" and I will transfer you so you can speak with her directly. Of course being in the middle of an interview she did not answer the phone but how unprofessional is that!?! Not only was the replacement representative totally unprofessional but a hospital can not advertise something and conduct themselves that way. It also looks bad if your employee is talking bad about your hospital. To set up a job fair/open house with on spot interviews and not show up is one thing but to be on site holding interviews/reviewing apps in you office is another. The open house was from 9a to 12 noon, it wasn't all day so IMO there is no excuse. But they tried to say "She is reviewing applications in her office and calling people from there, we hired 50 people last week means nothing when you commit to holding on spot interviews at the same time as your reviewing/calling/interviewing in your office. That is not how busines is conducted. Total downgrade to that hospital. That is beyond unprofessional. I may be just being upset and bitter but I drove almost 100 miles round trip to be lied to.
I am not happy at all. And if I wouldnt have called to follow up I wouldnt have known. How can someone do that to people much less the HR department. They were fully aware of it and even had an attitude as if I shouldnt have been shocked or concerned. TOTAL MADNESS!!
TOTAL DOWNGRADE MT SINAI, TOTAL DOWNGRADE!!
@missE -- that's great! good luck. Did you go to the open house in august?
i actually flew down for an open interview telling her i was very interested in attending the open house but could not due to me being in a different state.. i didnt have my fl license yet but was licensed in a different state (i have it now) but thought i had to at least try! i thought my interview went well and she asked when i could get my license.. im thinking that it took too long to get it though because by the time i had gotten it and told her, the position was filled.. :/ so just hoping they open positions up again. have you talked to anyone recently about new grad employment opportunities recently there? good luck to you as well!
