Here is the direct link to the online nursing programs offered by Breyer State University:

School of Nursing | Breyer State University

I had never heard of this school prior to this evening. I stumbled across their website via conducting a Google search for graduate degree programs in case management, utilization review or human resource development. This school offered an online MS degree in nursing case management for $4,000, which is the most affordable online graduate degree program I've ever seen.

So what is the catch?

After doing more research, I learned that Breyer State University is unaccredited. It isn't accredited by any accrediting entity recognized by the US Department of Education. In essence, it is basically a diploma mill. Buyer beware.

Thanks for the heads up I have been looking for schools too as I am sure a lot of folks r!

To be totally honest, it was the poor website design and unorthodox terminology of the educational offerings that tipped me off into suspecting Breyer State U might be too good to be true.

I like how, when you click on the link to "accreditation," you get a long explanation justifying why they aren't accredited by any legitimate US accreditation body (accreditation is completely voluntary, lots of good schools choose not to be accredited, etc., etc. ... :)) No mention of the fact that that means their nursing degrees are worthless.

As usual, caveat emptor!!

I totally agree. Breyer State U's accreditation info page was a rather entertaining read, although I imagine some prospective readers were bamboozled into actually believing that many 'good schools' choose not to go through the voluntary process of becoming accredited.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

Sorry, I can make a WAY better website than THAT. ;)

The website was totally wonky looks suspicious; especially with a concentration of Medical-Surgical nursing? The uninformed public would think that was a degree concentration, even though out education is a generalist one.

And what was the biggest giveaway (drum-roll, please)?

Their website ends in .com instead of .edu! Reputable colleges and universities here in the US will maintain websites that end in .edu to signify their status as an entity where higher learning takes place.

Yes, that was the first thing I looked for. But I kept reading, just in case. So many people here keep arguing for the legitimacy of (some) proprietary schools ...

is there a list on all nurses for for-profit, non accredited schools? After being through the application process, I feel that would help a lot

Specializes in hospice.

No actual campus and located in Panama. That's enough to send me running away screaming.
