Better Women's Health RN 1 job- Inova Fairfax Hospital or Sibley Memorial Hospital?

U.S.A. Washington DC

Hi everyone!

I am in the process of looking for my first post-grad RN job, and am trying to figure out the big differences between working at Inova Fairfax Hospital or Sibley Memorial Hospital. I am looking to work in Women's Health (Postpartum/FCC units). Does anyone have experience with either of these hospitals and would be able to comment on which is a better place to start a career? Both positions appear to have a good educational component, but I will be relocating to the DC area so am not very familiar with either hospital's reputation, outside of the easy to find rankings. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Hi there,

I work within the Talent Acquisition Department at Inova and I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the roles we have available or living/working in the DC area. We just built a brand new Women's and Children's Center at Inova Fairfax so we have a lot of exciting things happening in 2016! My email is [email protected] if you'd like to touch base.

I work at Sibley and it is a good hospital with a good reputation, however it is I believe the lowest paying hospital in the entire DC area. There have also been a lot of negative changes that have occurred since Hopkins took over. Just going to throw that out there.

I'm at Sibley, and I think the biggest question is what kind of hospital you want to work in. Inova Fairfax and Sibley are both great hospitals and either would be a great choice. Inova is a high volume, high acuity, fast paced setting. Sibley is lower-key and more relaxed with more of a community based focus, not as high-risk. Sibley is part of Hopkins and has great educational support throughout your orientation and early months as a nurse. They are part of a local educational consortium so new grads get education in a multi-hospital group as well as specific on-site education. Also, Sibley is building a new facility with a planned move this year. Our nurse recruiter is Katie, and I know she'd be happy to talk to you and answer any of your questions. Good luck making the choice that is right for you.
