Beth Israel School of Nursing, 2011/2012 Applicants? NYC

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi all - I've been reviewing the boards here for a while and thank you all for your detailed responses and information left. This board is awesome and has really helped me calm my nerves with respect to the admissions process at Beth Israel in NYC.

My apologies if a thread of this nature already exists - (i couldn't find one) -- Just wondering if any 2012 applicants are out there?? I am applying to the evening session beginning in January 2012.

I've submitted my completed package and scored an 89th percentile AD on the NLN PAX. I took the computerized version and was able to get my scores back immediately. The anticipation would have killed me otherwise. :nurse:

Anyway, I am eagerly awaiting a call or email from PBISON regarding the next step in the admission process which is the in-person interview. Fingers, Toes, and eyes are crossed!

Is anyone else out there applying for admission to the 2011/2012 entering class? Anyone further ahead in the process, perhaps you've had your interview already? I'm wondering how long to wait from the time I submitted my scores to the time of following up w/ the admissions board... I'm thinking 2 weeks is fair.?

Any comments welcome. Thanks in advance - and good luck!

Hi!

This is the first forum i've been able to locate about Beth Israels school of nursing applicants - can any of you guys give me some info? I LOVE the structure of the program and it fits my needs perfectly. I graduated with a BFA in another major in 2009, but am enrolled in Bio and Chem now, I'm also a Certified Nursing Assistant at our local hospital, and I do volunteer work.

IS THERE ANY CHANCE OF BEING ACCEPTED FOR THE 2012/2013 PROGRAM IF I HAVENT TAKEN A&P 1 &2? I have other accomplishments, but these anatomy classes seem to be a hang up for many nursing schools. i want to apply as soon as possible!

PLEASE HELP - ANY AND ALL ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you!

Hi and welcome! I know everything for the 12/13 graduation year is closed, but give them a call (the program starts on Monday). It's an amazing program, and is worth the wait if you have to wait a year. Best of luck!!

Hey, thank you for getting back to me!

I messed up my dates - woops! - i know the program is full for the upcoming year. I meant 2013/2014..as a CNA in a hospital i work with lots of new RN's who just received their degrees and tell horror stories about how difficult it is to get into a nursing program.

Beth Israel is PERFECT for me, if there is any advice you can give me on how to up my chances of acceptance i would really, REALLY appreciate it!!!!!

Read through the beginning of the post. It goes through each of our interview experiences and helpful advise as we go. The requirements are on the website, and I would also plan on going to an open house in the spring. At the open houses they go through all of the steps of the application process and you have a chance to meet the Deans and see the school.

Good luck!! :) It isn't easy to get any program, but once you are in-it's the best feeling ever and makes it all worth it!

Hi everyone! I'm new, wish I would've found this thread when I was going through the whole interview/application process!!

@Heid5469-I agree w/ Daisy Nurse. I can't even put into words what a great feeling it was once I was finally accepted :) Her suggestion to read from the beginning of the thread is a great one-I can't tell you how much I wish I would've found this website 6 months ago. As far as A+P, there are people who get accepted without it, but from what I understand-having at least one of them under your belt really helps your chances. Not to mention, having had them REALLY helped me when it came to the NLN. I scored really well, and not just because I studied, but because I had the prior knowledge that the exam was testing. You'll also be grateful once you do get into the program to have A+P done so you can just focus on your nursing courses. Good luck to you!!

After reading this thread I am more than worried. I am considering to apply in the RN program in Beth Israel, but my current GPA is 2.167 and I really want to get in the 2012 circuit but I don't think I have enough time to take more classes to bump up my GPA. I will be a transfer student from out of state. Does my current GPA diminish my chance to get into the RN program? Even lets say I do well with my NLN, and potentially may obtain strong letter of recommendations from people in the medical industry, and has a work background as care coordinator in a medical office? What are my chances? Help!

I believe the minimum GPA is 2.5, but you can check the website to be sure. That being said, they really do look at the whole package of your application....it's not just based on GPA or NLN. If your GPA is just barely over the border, but you are strong in every other area of the application, they will still consider you.

Hi AC8604,

Thanks for the comment! You gave me a slight piece of hope, I hope my letters of recommendation and job experience will somehow redeem me from the GPA part because I really want to get in the program. I know the minimum GPA is 2.5, I know I could still pull it up however time is relevant. I am planning to move to NY and the outcome of my application determines it. I really do hope they look at the entire package because experience wise my current job is almost like a nurse desk job the only thing that's lacking are my credentials. Did you attend PBISON?

if u plan on attending PBISN, I highly suggest purchasing the NLN review guide book as soon as possible. You will want to start studying for that right away and aim to score high! however, that being said, they really do look at the whole package you present before them. They love seeing volunteer work in hospitals ect. Your recommendation letters should really say the best about you and don't worry about the pre-reqs. They do provide opportunities at PBISN to take them there but if you can, take them NOW and do well! This way, you'll be getting them out of the way as well as raise your GPA. Attending any of the Open Houses will benefit you drastically because you will meet the Deans as well as students that can provide you with answers to any questions you have. I also recommend filling out your application and sending it in early, so that if (and hopefully when) they call you for an interview, it'll be sooner rather then later! GOOD LUCK AND STAY POSITIVE! :D

Hi Chickenlegs4life,

Thanks for the advice, I actually already purchased my NLN reviewer book 2 months ago and started studying this weekend. Is there other books you can suggest as a review guide? I've also been calling PBISON to find out the dates for the EXAM for the NLN. I've been told it would be out sometime next month but the website said on December. I'm not really sure which one to go by. I have been calling them for the last 3 months just to make sure I get the deadline dates but it seem to change every month? I need to plan ahead of time as I have to take a flight out to NY just to take the test. Thank you so much for the sounding advice. I'm glad to have found this thread and appreciate that people here are helpful to guide potential applicants. Hopefully I get in next year. I've been told by the admissions personnel that they start taking application on January 2012 for the 2012 circuit.

Do you know which month and until when they start to call in for interviews?

Thanks a bunch!

Deadline to apply was always April 1st, but when I spoke with someone, she said that they might change it to March 1st. They do not have the NLN preadmission exam dates yet, but they start in January and the last exam, in April. Was told to check the website every now and then for the dates.

Hi Anxtiouss

Your timeline can vary. I applied in February took my nln march 14 and didnt get an interview until mid July. So you never know when they wil call you.

Good luck. :)
