Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone applied to Beth Israel NYC for this coming Fall? I applied there and I really want to get in. I always wanted to go. If anyone knows if it's hard to get in, or what score they are looking for on the NLN exam that would be rally helpful. And is it true that the only start giving interviews in May????
Don't worry they will call. Have hope. Don't be afraid to bother them either. They like to see that you are interested. I called I don't know how many times. MG knew me even before I was accepted, lol.
My composite score was 121 I think and i ranked in the 88th/89th percentile so you did better than I did.
Hi thanks for your support and I am glad you are still here even after you have already started school. So you are in the atop or evening? Do you work full time? How do you handle it? Reviwing for class but having to wake up early for work? And what about your other grades that's what concerns me. I have a BA. With gpa under 3 and my prereqss are bs but psych c.
I am in the atop program. I have a family, husband and 3 children, but I'm lucky because I don't have to work. All of my classmates in atop work and some have families too. It can be done, just have to prioritize. When I came in I had 2 c's from 1996 in sociology and psych but I did those classes again because I really wanted to learn the stuff this time, lol. All the rest of my grades were b's and a's. My gpa was a 3.76 I think but that was only the classes I started taking in 2009. If they would've added all my other grades from when I first went to college it would've been lower. I explained why I got the c's to them in the interview and how I am a much different person now than I was when I was 18. They are very understanding about things like that. It's a shame that other schools just look at your grades no matter when you received them. If you scored that high on the exam I'm sure you will get a call. When did you get your results?
jayzelena. ur amazing thank you for being here although u r already in school and could care less. i took exam on the 23rd and received score last saturday in the mail. i have a gpa of like 3.3 on the bio classes but under 3.0 in my BA. so lets see. what r the hillman scholars? I read about it-they will dedicate their service to NY or city areas. but is this a scholarship they win? for good grades while at pbisn or before coming in? is the entire tuition covered? sounds pretty neat. now lets talk about $. I cant pay for the school-will they offer me lots of loans if my credit is good? or will i have a bill to pay everymonth. what has been ur experience with financial aid? and what is the cohort size of each pbisn? is it something like 20 per program?
I can't tell you anything that has to do with your prior degree and gpa and your chances of getting in because I don't have a degree but the 3.3 is good. They really look at the whole application though and not just your grades and test scores. As far as the hillman scholarship goes, if you get in I would fill out for every scholarship possible. I made the mistake of not doing it because I was taking microbiology last summer and was so consumed with it I really didn't have time to write all those essays. The hillman covers everything, books too! It is a great scholarship but you have to keep your grades up while in the program. I don't know what that grade is though.
I took out federal loans, subsidized and unsubsidized, and both together covered my tuition but I'm only taking nursing courses. If you have other courses to take your tuition will be a little higher. For this year the tuition for me was about $9300. Had to pay for books out of pocket and those ran me over $1000 so if you can apply for a scholarship do it. I plan on doing just that for next year. I've learned my lesson.
Keep me posted on when you get that call!
In the atop program there are about 20 of us. There are more in the other programs although I'm not sure what their numbers are. Atop is nice. We're a close group. There are 2 traditional groups, which I don't think you would fall into because you have all the sciences done, and there is an evening group which I really don't know too much about. They just started in January. You said you applied for atop right?
yes i applied for the atop but i also said i am interested in the evening option. I just want to know my options are opened. I love how great it is that they have program options for their students. I am glad tuition is just under 10,000. I will only be taking the nursing courses and will be applying to those scholarships too! So MG told me the atop program only meets twice a week during the first year. Also-how does it feel to be in school on a saturday? Do we get the Jewish holidays off? I guess I can look on the website for this. I am so exited I bought my skirt for the interview! No, no one has called me for an interview but God knows I really want this.
Saturdays are alright. I do miss my weekends a little though. The hospital is nice on saturday. The first semester you have lecture on thurs and clinical and lab on saturday. The second semester you have to go to school 3 days because lecture, lab and clinical are all on separate days - thurs, fri, and sat.
I'm sure you will get that call soon! :)
I did some volunteer in a hospital when I was 16. They didn't let me interact with the patients, it was just paperwork but over the years I helped out with taking care of my grandmother. She fell and broke her hip in 2008. She still needs alot of help. I also have kids so that in itself is helpful. Teaches you patience and compassion. How about yourself? Done any volunteer work?
