Best time to buy textbooks

Published

I am hunting for a bargain on one more book I need for spring semester. Is it better to buy one right at the end of this semester or wait until January? Anyone have experience with bargain hunting or suggestions? Right now the Amazon price is about the same as the bookstore.

Hey CT, How are you and how is the semester going?

Hey CT as in studentnurseCT or as in CT Pixie? :)

But I am fine and my semester is going well ;)

Try craigslist too. I searched for my schools initials and found a complete programs worth of texts for $150, but they were not current editions. The student selling them said they worked for her, but our professors strongly suggested we only use current texts. My first semester alone cost $450 used from Amazon.com & Half.com. I did buy uniforms from this former student who was selling the books.

Vann, I just have a final and a few clinical days. I really like the floor I am on and I will miss the nurses a lot. It went by so fast. How is your semester going?

I am doing good, thus far. I have one more regular test then the final exam. Group project and a surprise ATI protoctored test sometime between now and the end of the semester. If I get through this, I am straight. Glad to hear from you hun.

I was very proud of myself and had to share. I ordered my books from the bookstore before Jan. 1 and since I did that then my books are being shipped to me! No long bookstore waiting lines for me.

From my experience its always best to buy a couple weeks before classes start to get the lowest price. I buy some books through coursesmart.com. Its a digital book but you can look at it online so you have access to it from any computer and your phone, ipad, etc... Also, the last 2 books I bought from them I could print more pages than the book even had. I found that very convenient to be able to go to the school computer lab and print off a chapter or portions of a chapter to read (I print at school because we pay a good chunk for the computer labs and printing every semester so I like to get my use out of them). I always find that Amazon is cheaper than Barnes and Noble but sometimes buying used from barnes and noble (or even renting) can be fairly cheap. If its a book you wont need to keep you can also try chegg for renting as well. Also, you can check half.com for used books!

[color=#2f4f4f]i've actually been really strapped for cash the last couple of months, so when i found out i was accepted into the nursing program, i actually looked up the isbn for each book i need for class and rented the books. every rental site i searched reviews on, had pretty sketchy ratings, so i was worried...but i decided to try chegg.com...put it this way, so far, great! i paid $127 to rent them all for 125 days when if i would have bought them at the bookstore, i would have paid well over $300 for them all. i got them after two days of placing my order...all of them were new except for my med-math book, which is still in decent shape.
