Best States for RN's to work?

I am going to be leaving Arizona, hopefully, in a matter of 7 months and am open to any suggestions on states to check into? I thought of Kentucky, Tennessee, N or S Carolina, somewhere throughout there.

Any ideas? Does anyone have any pointers on this? I just want a good job at a excellent hospital in a nice area.:idea: Just looking for change, I guess. I have family in Ohio and would like to be closer. Even if you could suggest what to avoid?

Well, we have brown grass here, so of course it'll be greener elsewhere ;)

I've lived in the valley forever .... live in a great part of town, work at a great hospital that is just a 20 minute drive, and I enjoy the nice weather. Of course there are bad things too that I don't like (the damn snowbirds and the fact that it never rains), but it's a compromise.

I can't think of any places that I could recommend that would be satisfying for all the needs you stated, but I'm sure you'll find somewhere that has at least most of what you're looking for. Good luck to you!

I am in Asheville North Carolina which is the liberal heart of the state. Asheville is about 70k pop and is a very diverse small city. Beautiful located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Mission / St Joseph Medical Center is a very good facility, but the pay is not as good as it is in the other NC cities such as Charlotte or Raleigh. But then again we don't have the problems that the bigger cities have such as high costs of living and crime.

Mission / St Josephs is a hot spot for travelers (nurses) has very good patient nurse ratios. We also have a very large VA hospital.

Why don't you try a travel job in the states you are interested in? It would give you an idea how things work there without committing to a FT job that you may have regretted taking!

WOW! FT. Meyers Fla? I heard lots of people moving out of the area (FL) because of cost of living. Actually, related to the what the hurricanes have done to the cost of housing too.

I know this is an old post, but I figured I'd comment anyways because I'm new to allnurses. My dad works in Rhode Island Hospital, and he says they start RN's around 28/hr. It's one of top ten busiest hospitals in the nation, and the state of RI is obviously the smallest in the nation. There are a lot of nice areas to live around, although I wouldn't live where the hospital is, in Southern Providence. You can drive across the state in an hour, just about, and it's close to the beach if that's your sort of thing. Cost of living isn't horrible either, and crime is low in a lot of areas in RI.
