Best States for RN's to work?

I am going to be leaving Arizona, hopefully, in a matter of 7 months and am open to any suggestions on states to check into? I thought of Kentucky, Tennessee, N or S Carolina, somewhere throughout there.

Any ideas? Does anyone have any pointers on this? I just want a good job at a excellent hospital in a nice area.:idea: Just looking for change, I guess. I have family in Ohio and would like to be closer. Even if you could suggest what to avoid?

I just became an LPN. I live in NC and the pay is great for nurses. I work in long term care while going to school for my BSN and I cannot complain about the pay...$21.00 as an LPN just starting out. Also, NC is a very nice state. Plenty of opportunities and great schools. Also, very good hospitals thats linked to excellent universities like Duke and Wake Forest. Charlotte, Winston-Salem and the Raleigh/Durham areas would be your best bet. You should def consider it. Good luck.

Just curious whats wrong with AZ. The weather is great and so is the pay,the cost of living is affordable. the grass is not always greener on the otherside

Hi, I have a friend that works in London, Kentucky at Marymount Medical Center. She is an RN and makes 38.00 per hour normal time. Even more than that for any overtime, holiday pay or working on her paid off sick or personal days. It is an excellent hospital and I know for a fact they are looking for good nurses. Kentucky is a fabulous state to live in and the weather has changed greatly. We do not get as much snow as we used to, nor as much cold weather. It is still in the 50's and 60's here. Unheard of weather. But a beautiful state and loads of stuff to do, no matter what it is you like. You can call them at 606-878-6520 and talk to Heather in HR. Good Luck

I know plenty of R.N's in Chicago that make 50$ an hour.The cost of living is a little more expensive than Arizona,But there are plenty of things to do here for fun..The weather sucks though......

You have to live here to get it. The cost of living is outrageous; there is a fine line between good and bad areas to live. Crime is on a huge rise here; I have a 13 and 18 year old that will agree. Yes, the weather is nice; I dont mind the heat at all, but, nice weather doesnt pay the bills. You cant find a nice home in a nicer area for under $200,000. The commute is murder as well. My suggestion is, if you do live here, you best know Spanish. The culture is very diverse. If sunny days is your biggest desire, AZ is for you. Pay doesnt match the cost of living here though; My electric runs $400.00 a month easy, not to mention gas for the commute. Yes, the grass isnt greener, but, there is no grass here at all!! Do you live here?? If not, I can suggest some great hospitals.

I am so glad I came accross your thread!! I want to move to either Tennesse or N. Carolina once I get out of LPN school. These are the states I'm most interested in. Can you tell me what area of NC you live in?? I don't want to live in a "big city" but I don't want super small either. Anything within a 20 mile drive of a good job would be worth it for me.

Afew people had suggested Tucson or Phoenix to me. I have visited both places but never worked there. From what i obsderved there is room for advancement in or career and the job market is not as bad many older fox are choosing AZ over Fl. I wouldn't mind more information regarding this state or any other for that matter. Ohio, the times have changed for most of the states that banked on the auto industry so i would be cautious. The housing market is horrible and career advancement is not easy. people are clinging on towhat they have got. crime is every where you have to watch that.I myself will be looking into Tennesse and i will continue to kep an eye on AZ.

These are changing times for all of us. Lets be open about what opprotunites are available in our localities from reading various threads it appears that many of us are looking for fresh beginings for one reason or another. The common denominator is that we all need some sort of employment but need to be informed enough before we make life changing decisions. Please let us know of opprotunites out there

In reality, pay doesnt matter much if the cost of living is outrageous and it really comes down to what you enjoy; what is familiar I guess. I have lived in AZ a total of 12 years (previously OH) and cant wait to get out of here. To me, it is just a New California; just not my thing. We all, as nurses, are in a profession where choices are abundant and the market wont be slowing down any day soon, so I think you should just make a pro's and con's list and go for it!! Just be wise about "location, location, location" when you do pick a state. As I mentioned before, AZ is anything but safe, anymore. But what I consider "safe" may be different for other people!
