What seems to be the most popular shoe in hospitals around here are Danskos. I ended up buying a pair of Sanitas because the Danskos hurt my feet. http://www.sanitaclogs.com/global/
Many people around here wear Danskos and love them. I think I bought a bit too small and they hurt my feet so I went with Sanitas. http://www.sanitaclogs.com/global/
Different shoes work better for different people (because there is so much variation among feet). Most schools have a fairly strict dress code, so don't buy anything without being sure that it meets your school's requirements. Most nursing schools require a solid white shoe, in leather (or synthetic leather), not fabric (so fabric sneakers are out). Most also require a closed toe and heel (so clogs would be out in that case). Crocs are popular (I find them extremely comfortable), and they make lots of styles other than the ubiquitous clogs.
When I was in school, I was v. happy with SAS shoes, and I have also been happy with New Balance in the past (nowadays, I only wear Crocs :)).

Good point about dress code. I will have to look into this.
Is it true I should buy a size too big? I saw somewhere that nurses feet swell big time making the regular size shoe too small? Have you experienced this? What color do most get? Thanks for all the feedback everyone! :)
I didn't buy mine too big. I had a pair of Reebox and a pair of Nikes. I am going back to school next month and will probably buy something else but not sure what else yet. Check with your school's clinical dress code because most enforce a certain color and some may be particular about style as well. Ours had to be ALL WHITE and rubber soled and that was the only specification.
I have plantar fasciitis in both feet. I vary my shoes between Alegria's, Nurse Mates, and Landau Comforts. We have to wear white. Different shoes for different feet. My suggestion is to just start looking around and trying on shoes to see what works. Good luck in your search! And good luck in school!

Thanks for the good luck with school. I am nervous, very nervous! But excited all the same. I am going to UVA! I did a little looking around online for shoes and it seems not one person has agreed on one particular shoe so I think I will have to do some serious looking. ALthough, some of the nursing shoes I have found are expensive so I would hate to invest and then hate them.

Hello!
I start nursing school in May and I was wondering if you all could suggest a great shoe for clinical rotations? We do a 1000 clinical hours so I am guessing I will be on my fit quite a bit. Thanks for the feedback!
