Best schools for FNP

Published

I'm looking at direct entry MSN programs with the goal of practicing as an FNP. I was recently talking to some doc friends of mine and they both indicated that west coast schools are far better for family practice than east coast schools. Does anyone have any insight into this?

Specializes in ICU.

I'm wondering what their rationale on that would be. There are plenty of great nursing schools in the Midwest and east coast. I would do my own research on it.

It has been said on this forum that west coast schools harbor more independence in their students, when ready to practice. Less reliance.

I doubt there's a significant difference.

Their take on it was that the population density on the east coast creates a bigger push for specialists, while the relatively less dense west coast has a greater need for generalists. It's an interesting thought and obviously they got this from somewhere. It may only be applicable to MDs, but I think it's worth considering since I'm aiming for FNP.
