I would like to move to Florida and work there as RN. As I am not just out of school and not willing to move around much I would really appreciate if someone could tell me what's the best place for living in Florida(west coast) considering houses prices,nursing salary,p/n ratio, fast access to the ocean and and many more things that I can't think of.

Citrus County or Marion County - Inverness, or Ocala

Close to everything with Inverness being smaller town and Ocala being medium town.

Tampa Bay.

Buyers market in real estate, close access to the ocean (but live away so you don't pay high hurricane insurance rates), and lots of things to do that a metro area offers.

Lots of jobs in nursing in many places.

I am so glad you said this because my cousin, who is not a nurse lives in Tampa, is is pushing for me to live down there. However, my question is how is the pay compared to the mortgage costs? Could I find a decent 4 bedroom home and maintain it with an RN salary? My husband is a construction worker and can do ANY interior work so it doesn't have to be brand new. But I'm not sure how the job market is in his field down there and would feel better to know that I can manage a home in case he doesn't find a job right away. Any advice?

If you're willing to live away from the city, you can probably find a deal on a 4-bedroom in some of the newer communities springing up in the suburbs. But I would have to say no that you can't find a 4-bedroom house that you can afford on a nurses salary because that more than likely could cost in the $200-300K range, but I'm not 100% sure. But that's probably the market in all of Florida right now.

Salaries for RNs are in the 20's per hour depending on experience and RN jobs are plentiful.

New Ocala homes are in the 160's range now..............and these homes WERE over 200,000. Investors bought them up years ago, now they sit and they are offering huge perks if you buy them for a very reduced price.

Builders are offering low interest rates, added options, its a buyers market wherever you move in Florida.

You can get a pool home on an acre of land, 4 bedrooms, 2 baths that is only 3 years old for 199,000.

Just saw an ad in the Ocala Banner- a home was going to auction last night. Appraised at 395,000, listed at 259,000, 6 bedrooms, 4 baths and sold at auction for 180,000! Home was in the desired SW area also.

Just my opinion.............move somewhere away from the coastal area like Tampa.

The home insurance will kill you and Tampa is in a flood plain.

Ocala, in the middle of the state, is the only topagraphical area not listed as a flood plain in Florida, crime is low, tons of RN jobs at a good rate ( I was offered 26/hr at ORMC) and its not a tourist area...............so no crowds!

Do you research. Phone Insurance companies and ask how much is home insurance on a certain home and then phone the assessors office and ask about the property tax on the home. You will find Ocala very reasonable.

One of the many reasons we are moving there. :)

Oh wow, I would have never considered Ocala before but those housing prices certainly can't be beat. I'm guessing there is a trade-off...is it a typical American town? (Not that there is anything wrong with that) The only FL city I've spent time in is Ft Lauderdale which had lots of stuff to do and see and not so far from Miami.
