Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
I am so sorry ketdv:( Perhaps you could go to the admissions and find out what you could do. I wouldn't give up. But I would apply to other programs as well. Are you a resident of Bergen County? I hear they accept residents first. I know another person who didn't get in and I was sure this person was a shoe in.
I also got in to both HNH and BCC. I have decided on BCC. I almost didn't apply to BCC because I was sure I wouldn't get in. I am really nervous. I don't know why really. I believe this has been my calling all along and I am finally at a place where I am ready to work through my fear ( for lack of a better word) of science. I have a microbiology requirement to fulfill, but I have taken all others including humanities which I earned with my bachelor's.
Best wishes to you ketdv. I spoke to someone in the admissions office yesterday who mentioned that most people DON'T get in on their first try. Don't give up!
hello everyone! first, i want to congratulate everyone who got accepted into the nursing program. you truly deserve it! unfortunately, i did not make it. so ketdv, don't worry you're not the only one! don't give up...i'm not!!! this only means, we have to aim 100% on the hesi. a nursing student said to me, if you really want it, you have to give it your 110%. again, i wish you all success and hold on to that dream!
tips:
i would start reading the fundamentals of nursing textbook over the summer because there's a lot of material to absorb within a short period of time. the first exam will consist of 18-19 chapters. ( i was told)
the 18-19 chapters does not include materials from pharm and physical assessment…
get the syllabus from the book store if it's available or get it from previous students. this way, you'll get an idea on what is expected and you'll be ahead.
read read read!!! don't skip any material, the ones you skip are likely to be on the exam. don't exclude the boxes.
don't rely on the textbook alone, use other resources. nclex practice questions books/cds/powerpoints...etc. i don't know which are the best one out there but network and ask other students.
(these are just a few tips i got from friends and current students) just wanted to share. =)
again, congratulations and best of luck!
eileen congrats to you too! i had just registered to take pre reqs for felicians accelerated program so i thought the letter had something to do with that! it was a total surprise...funny thing is im moving to bergen county in 10 days so I need to go in to talk to them about changing my address..are you taking the letter in tomorrow? I guess were a little behind on the steps i guess we will figure out how to register and what other steps we need to take when we bring the letter back?
