Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!
Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.
Thanks!
peanut - look at the cost - Bergen is MUCH cheaper. Now, if you were deciding between associates and BSN, I would say go for the BSN,. but for an equal degree, go to Bergen
cele - that is called discrimination. There are several factors to get into nursing now at Bergen, but age is not one of them.
have to agree with asp40, it is intolerable to admit people based on their age - what would make a 30 year old a better nurse than a 21 year old? plus i think the department would be in the deepest you know what should someone prove the discrimination. There are HESI scores, GPA average and other academic factors that contribute to the chances of being admitted.
congrats!!!!! to all.. I am exited for all of you... I did not get in I do not think I am going to apply next semester... I am lost. I am 38 and I had plan A not B big mistake I am done with all my pre and co requirements. I was thinking in applying to trinitas school of nursing or go for an lpn and then bridge to RN any advice please..... my gpa is 3.73 and i scored 83 on the hesi Helllppppp! I wish you guy the best of luck! enjoy the new experiences and please know how blessed you guys are....
.
@peanut I got into Holy name and bergen as well. I am staying at Bergen. Holy name only takes 9 pre req's...I do not want to do them all over again. Apparently BCC is a much more difficult program, but I would rather have my degree and work towards my bsn after. Holy name has amazing clinicals and they tend to hire within, but I think the pros outweigh the cons.
ketdv, please don't give up hope, you still can apply for evening program. Since you got a feel of what HESI is like, you will definetely do better next time. I know that some people applied last year and didn't get in, but persisted and got admitted this semester! Plus i think it is worth applyng to other schools while applying to bergen. I know people applied to essex and passaic community colleges. Please, don't get discouraged by this failure and the fact that you could be older than some other applicants. I have met one lady who applied to nursing school 3 times being 50 years old!! By 56 she graduated with MSN and couldn't be happier with her decision. Keep your head up and good luck:yelclap:

hi everyone! i was admitted as well but for once in my life, have a good problem.. i was also admitted to holy name hospital school of nursing and am unsure what school has a better reputation/can offer me a better education.
i never imagined i'd get into bcc's program so i really never through through which school i'd go to if i was admitted to both. i was wondering if any of you could offer me some insight about either bcc or holy name that will help me determine which one to go to. thank you and congrats to everyone!
