Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

I still haven't personally met you guys (Gabby820, Yessi1286, AmHausch) in the Level 1 - 601 class. I think I know who you are but your names might be different. There's only one Earl in class and I sit at the back on the left side facing the board. Anyhoo, anyone starting a group study during Sat or Sun mornings. I'm going to start going to the school library on Sat 9-1pm starting in 2 weeks to study and would be nice to practice the validations on real people.

are we allowed to wear long shirts under the top uniform? you know how the tops are short sleeved with a zipper? are we allowed to wear long black or white shirts underneath? since i didnt purchase a jacket.

You can wear a plain white shirt underneath it but long sleeves are not the best idea - too germy. I used to wear 3/4 sleeves.

Going to be a crazy next couple of weeks. We already missed 2 (clinical) night classes last week due to the snow.

Hi everyone..haven't checked in a little bit.. Soooo crazy first week huh?

How far have you gotten with reading assignments? crazy stuff!!! I'm trying my best stay on top them all..

Class cancelled again. That's 3 classes cancelled already and we just started. Validation #1 is suppose to be next week but we haven't done skills lab#1 yet. I sure we'll make up for the lost time. Anyhoo, I think our class (601) had 12 men, I'm not sure how many are in 602.

hey..i go to pccc..last semester..how do guys like it there in bergen??

Congratulations on those students that have been accepted. You guys probably have a lot of hW but I was hoping someone could answer a few questions. I will be coming in from the city for the evening program. So far what does the schedule seem to look like? I already have most prereqs...Chemistry is not needed correct? I hope classes do not finish by 11 pm. another thing are classes five days a week? how r the clinicals are they far? another thing-i do not drive! so r clinicals terribly far? are they during the weekends?

Bergen is not answering their phones! the first step is submitting an application and transcripts-after this I should just wait-correct? they give me further instructions and finally could you guys share-you may in private or email me-your hesi scores. i am concerned for next year. Let me know-thanks and goodluck. keep us posted.

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if you can still apply now into the nursing program for the Fall semester at BCC even though I still need to take math 031 & 032.. I was planning on taking math 031 in the spring semester & 032 in the summer.. do you think they will allow me to get into the program even if the math pre-requs. wont be completed when I apply... Thry will both be completed before the Fall semester begins however, so I am hoping it won't be a problem.. besides that I have all of my other pre requs. Does anyone have any advise? Thanks! :)

where does it say we need those math courses? could you please link me to these.

Honestly, you need a car, especially if you are coming from the city. Some of the hospitals do not have public transportation nearby. Also, if you do the day program you might need to be somewhere at 7am - there might not be a bus from the city that early. If you run late, some clinical instructors will mark you as absent. If you do the evening program, clinicals end at 10:30pm and have been known to run late - most buses do not run that late from NJ out to the city.

As for pre-reqs. The evening program has a long list of pre-reqs, but I believe the day program does not (they have some, but not as many) However, it is best to get everything except nursing courses completed before nursing school and it is hard/impossible to take other classes in addition and do well.

You do need chemistry for nursing, as well as math or testing out of the math classes. I would go to Bergen and speak to someone if you cannot get them on the phone. Good Luck!

Also, I live in NJ, but work in NY. I left work at approx 3pm to catch the bus back in time for class. Classes start at 610p (Clinicals starts at 530p) and are usually done by 930p...but I have been in clinicals as late as 1030 - 11pm. I opted for Saturday clinicals whenever available. this helped tremendously, because then I would only need to leave work early 2days out the week. Attendance is part of your eval.

IMO you will need a car for clinicals....unless they offer Saturdays...which is usually at HUMC......and accessible by public transportation from NY.

chemistry is not needed correct? i hope classes do not finish by 11 pm. another thing are classes five days a week?

i had to take chm-100 (4 credits) because i hadn't had chemistry since hs which was 20 years ago. i think it's a 5 or 10 year allowable lapse time for any of the science pre-reqs for bccc to accept it but contact the nursing dept to make sure. also, try to go to one of the nursing open house [color=#606420]http://www.bergen.edu/pages1/pages/6018.aspx our classes pretty much run from 5:30/6:00 to 10:15 m-th. until clinicals
