Bergen Community College Nursing Program Question

Published

Last Thursday I was at the college for the purpose of collecting my Chemistry grade with some classmates. Apparently, there was a graduation ceremony for RN's going on that night as well, and my friends started talking to one student to ask her about the program. I didn't hear the entire conversation, but one of my cohorts told me the student had stated that ELEVEN people had failed out of NUR-181 alone during her course!

Now, there's always a chance there was some sort of misunderstanding or miscommunication, but does this sound right? For what it's worth, I would think the application process and competitiveness of getting in to the program would assure a strong student population, so it makes me nervous to hear these things. I already received some insight from someone privately, but I was wondering what the public population made of this info.

Thanks!

I applied for General Studies (as.ps.gen). After I finished my required courses, I applied to Nursing (Evening), took the Hesi, once I was accepted, they moved me to aas.nurs.eve program.

Go to this link. It gives you the required courses needed before applying for the Nursing program.

Hello :)

From what I understand about the article, you will be able to get your BSN through Kean but paying Bergen's tuition rates and attending classes at Bergen's Meadowland's Campus. While completing your AAS at BCC, you can earn credits towards your BSN. For example, you will need to complete addition general education credits so you can take some required classes during the summer sessions. Another example, (while browsing the Kean University BSN program requirements) we have to take Intro to Computers; you can take a class at Bergen equivalent to that of Kean. Kean accepts a certain amount of general education credits and nursing credits. This is just my understanding but I could be mistaken. I have tried to look from more information about it but I think because the agreement between to two institutions is new, there isn't much detailed information available yet.

Hope this helps!!

Hi everyone..

Today******* called me saying that the nursing courses for this semester were already all closed & now they put me on the top of a waiting list and told me that the only way that I will be able to start the nursing program this semester is if someone drops a class.. i'm really stressed out because it was very unexpected.. I'm supposed to start the program on Thursday.. and now I don't know if I even can... i'm going to try to talk with the Dean of nursing and see if they can add just one more student to the class.. I hope it all works out.:eek:

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if you can still apply now into the nursing program for the Fall semester at BCC even though I still need to take math 031 & 032.. I was planning on taking math 031 in the spring semester & 032 in the summer.. do you think they will allow me to get into the program even if the math pre-requs. wont be completed when I apply... Thry will both be completed before the Fall semester begins however, so I am hoping it won't be a problem.. besides that I have all of my other pre requs. Does anyone have any advise? Thanks! :)

I have to still purchase my uniform. I have to wait 2 weeks until my check comes in. I just want to make sure that we don't need uniforms until clinicals start. can someone validate this? what do we wear in labs then?

the evening program didn't need uniforms until the start of clinicals. one has to first pass the Pharm test before clinicals start.

im lost by this. are you saying they accepted more than there are spots for ?

also, with us...they would open like 30 spots in each section....then open another 5, then more later. not sure why they do/did this, but are you sure they will not open more spots ?

i am nervous for the first day of class. what happens on the first day? do we have an orientation or we just have regular class? what do we do in lab??

Good Luck on your first day. Everyone is nervous, so don't worry.

We did not have an orientation, we just started. I wish they had given us something of an orientation instead of just jumping in. Perhaps they will have changed it by now.

Like ASP stated, no orientation for the evening program. I understand that the day program does have orientation. Be ready to hit the pavement and start running. God Luck !

Hi Daddy0-

They had put a certain amount of nursing transfer students on a waiting list because current students had gotten accepted and filled a lot of the nursing classes.. & told us that if spots were available only few transfer students who were at the top of the list would get in.. I actually got into the nursing program and started this morning because I was one who was at the top of the waiting list! Thank God! lol! I was also wondering if it is possible to trasfer nursing credits to Bergen's nursing program to atleast finish up my associate's degree because I already have 40 general credits from Bergen & the BSN is going to take another 3 years.. Any advise? Thanks! :)

i know we have classes on weds/thurs before clinicals. where is the class held because it doesnt say on the schedule? what kind of class is it before clinicals?
