Bellevue Emergency ICU/Trauma Resuscitation Unit

Published

Hello AN community.... I was just wondering if any nurses have first hand experiences in Bellevue Hospital's Emergency ICU/Trauma Resuscitation Unit... I am a lifelong New York'r and it has been a dream of mine to work for HHC (Bellevue, Lincoln, Harlem ED's are my top choices for I love trauma).... Being a Bellevue nurse would be a dream come true.. I have seen some posts regarding Bellevue but I was wondering if anyone currently (or formerly) had some incite on how the Emergency ICU is run. I am currently a 3rd semester student in an ASN program (graduate December 2015) and am looking for info on this amazing institution.... some questions I have are...

1) Is Bellevue hiring new grad Associate Degree Nurses?

2) How many nurses are staffed.. in general... in the EICU?

3) What is the typical nursing assignment for the EICU?

4) How long is the typical stay of an EICU patient?

5) What type of pt comes through the Trauma Resuscitation Unit (trauma's, strokes, STEMI's, critical medical patients, Neuro cases)?

6) Who decides who takes incoming critical patients?

7) In a 12 hour shift or week long time period how many patients come through the TRU?

8) What happens if there are no beds in the EICU and a Level 1 trauma comes in?

Sorry for the length of the post but I would love to know everything about Bellevue...It is truly my dream to be a nurse at Bellevue... especially treating all the critical patients... Thanks so much in advance.

The only advice I can offer is getting your BSN as soon as you can after graduation. Considering the increased influx of new grad BSNs in NYC, they will get preference in hiring quite often.
