Nursing Students SRNA

Bellarmine University

Has anyone heard of this school? It looks like they're not accredited yet but not sure how long that takes or the likelihood. Anyone apply to this school or was a pilot cohort before like this? Is it pretty safe to apply to new programs like this? It looks like the cycle just ended for their first cohort.

Their initial accreditation was reviewed at the late January COA meeting so the decision should be out anytime now (per the COA website/their info session earlier this year). At the info session they say that they should be accredited by the time they send acceptance letters around April 1.

The anesthesia program is new but it's within an established nursing school. They said there are a max of 18 spots for the first cohort, looks like they're interviewing only about 30 people in late March.

I applied and got an interview -- the vibes were good as far as I can tell, and the clinical sites are all in the greater Louisville area which has a good COL. It'll be interesting to see how the interview goes. The first two semesters (fall 2023/Spring 2024) are online too, which is a big draw for me.

Wow those all sound like good things! First year online? Accepting up to 18 and only 30 interviews? When do you interview? Did they say what style it was? Will be interesting for you since there will be no previous SRNAs but that's kind of cool...

The application cycle for their first cohort just closed. Prior to applying I did a lot of research on Bellarmine's current nursing programs (BSN,ABSN, MSN, DNP) and I attended two information sessions. The information sessions were led by the program director who gave an overview of the program, clinical sites, costs, curriculum, and the DNP project. I have attended other informational sessions by other CRNA programs and this one was one of my favorites. I just had good vibes from them. Skellington already touched on their pending COA status. I appreciated their communication about this during their informational sessions.

I'm most excited about their partnerships with one of the local hospital systems. It would be great to be able to focus on school and not worry about traveling around the state or multiple states. I also have an invitation to interview. Hopefully all goes well! Will update this chat either way.

The interviews are March 21 and 22. They were super up-front with the admissions schedule on the website, and said they expect to send out decisions by April 1 for an August 2023 online start. The first two semesters are the same core courses (stats, health policy, etc) as their other DNP programs and then all the in-person semesters are completely anesthesia-centric.

In the info session I think I remember them saying that it won't be a highly clinical interview/mostly just personal questions but I could be misremembering that.

I also remember them saying mostly personal questions/emotional intelligence questions.

Are you interviewing? I should have applied!

Yes I am! Nervous and excited. Never been to KY before!

Just a heads up, they mentioned opening their application cycle sooner next year. It might open up in the fall instead of Winter.

Congrats! Are you doing in on the 21 or 22? Where are you coming from?

Great news: the COA website was updated today and Bellarmine is fully accredited for the next 5 years ?

Specializes in MICU.

That's wonderful!

Did they say anything in the informational sessions about a sim lab?

I have an interview here also. Louisville is a great area and I like that the clinical sites are all in the same area.

I signed up for an interview and when I looked at the sign up slots my time opened up again...but I got my confirmation email already. Glad to hear they got accredited.
