Being a single mom in Nursing school

Published

So I found this gem of a website through google and have used it to find so much information. The one thing I am curious about is being a mom and going through Nursing school. My daughter is going to be two years old in a few months. I am currently studying to take the HESI exam for my local community college. I know this program requires a lot of time and studying. Her father is not in the picture whatsoever, but my family is extremely supportive and I feel confident in my ability to pass my classes. I just worry that I won't have any time for her. Have any of you nursing moms out there been in a similar situation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I was a single parent in nursing school. My child was older- elementary school. As long as you have good flexible daycare and are dedicated to working hard at being successful, you can do it!

with regard to missing out on spending time with my son, I made an effort to include him on my study time. We also did little activities together such as going to the park after school, building volcanoes, letting him play with anatomy models I had at home, etc.

Your daughter is 2. She will be 5ish when you are finished. Do it now. If you have a supportive family - utilize them. Time missed with your daughter will not be remembered by her as much as when she's older. My daughter doesn't remember me going to England for work when she was 18 months - but she remembers me being gone for Hurricane Katrina response. When I could come home she expected me to write on her with lipstick to prove I was there (my mom was staying with me to help out). It will be harder on you emotionally now than it will be her. It will be nice to have more time to spend with her once you have completed school and have that RN job. You won't be stressed financially (as much) and you'll have plenty of time to spend with her as she grows up. Good Luck!!
