Becoming an NP

Hi,

I am a new graduate nurse, and it may seem i am jumping the gun, but I'm looking to go back to school in about a year or two and earn an NP. I am really looking into being a pediatric NP or pediatric oncology np, however, i do not know much if there is a specific degree i have to pursue, or will receiving a FNP be sufficient enough to be a pediatric NP/Ped Oncology NP?

thanks!

My advice is get some experience in that field (actually just experience in general regardless of specialty)- I know several friends who wanted to go Peds-Onc and where depressed all the time.

Before you make any decisions, shadow some providers in the roles you are interested in. You may find you don't even like them. As you do that you can ask what degrees/paths most local employers prefer. If you have no desire to ever see adults, than go with a PNP.
