I am an LPN, waiting to take the Nclex to become an RN. During the last 2 summers I work at a summer camp in Bear Mountain, NY. I would be interested in trying to obtain a new grad position in this area or maybe another area in NY. I love it up there, it's so beautiful there. Does anyone have any suggestions, all comments appreciated. I am not from this area, I just worked for the summer.

well try good sam hospital they are always hiring its in suffern ny in rockland county where bear mountain is. not too far at all. another hospital you could try which is closer also in rockland county-nyack ny is nyack hospital. i lived in various parts of rockland all my life and at one point lived in tomkins cove 10 min from bear mountain beautiful area rockland. its a small county everyone knows everyone but wonderful people. you'll love it now matter where in rockland you live. i suggest stony point, suffern, nanuet, pearl river, new city-if you an afford it(great school) some parts of spring valley, pomona nice area a lot of mds and dds live there. blauvelt is nice near pearl river-all in rockland-if you like lakes lake welch (you can swim in it-in stony point)!
if you have any questions let me know. and also if you want long term care work. in new city theres an assisted living facility called sunrise-they always hire and in chestnut ridge also nice area but boarders nj theres an assisted living as well called esplanade (i worked there). if you want to work for the county-which would be great(they take care of theirs) try sanatorium hospital through the department of social servies in pomona. or you can work for the state in orangeburg-nice area too. its called rockland psych-my sister works there.
can you tell i love that place??? lol
I do love it it's beautiful. I want to try and get some hospital experience as an RN. I also want to work 12 hour shifts, because I plan to work at the camp this summer. I have an 8,10,13 year old and my niece who all attend for free. It's a good deal for me. Thanks for the info, any is appreciated.
then i would go straight to good sam hospital in suffern-much better than nyack- but hey TRY BOTH CANT HURT. where do you live?
I live in Delaware, that's why I want to work 12 hour shifts, so that I can go home on my off days. In the summer when my kids are in camp, I would go home on my off days. It's a 3 hour drive.
oh my yea you need it- but like i said good sam is the placce to be. i think the person who first interviews nurses, i have to check- i worked there as a tech in icu-nurses in that unit arent very nice ( well maybe they are just not nice to non nurses lol) but if you want to get an interview without going around the world and back shes the go to person-straight to the source she gave me her contact number when i moved to fl i cant find it for nothing- heres what to do if i cant find it next time you are in rockland go to suffern and to the main lobby of hospital DURING BUSINESS HOURS they will direct you to a building across from the hospital parking lot that building is HR that is where "------" office is. she is a dear! there you introduce yourself with resume on hand if memory serves me correctly if she'll give all the info you need to know. if not busy (usually is) she'll do an initial interview to save her time.
dont know anyone in nyack hospital but you can try there as well
had to remove the name didnt feel comfortable!!
Thanks I appreciate the info. I looked on the website and it only had positions with experience. I have 3 years LPN experience, but I know that usually doesn't count. I know other people recommended Albany, but it's too far for me. I did this drive at least 2x week, and it was ok. Thanks again
well look at it this way- they said experience needed-not no new grad -if i were you i wouldnt jump to conclusion i would go to hr like i told you with resume on hand there is an exception to every rule. and i say this cause i know how they work-
I sure will and I thank you again. It's hard out here for a new RN , lol
