Do most nursing schools require you to wear scrubs to class?

That seems like a very strange concept to me and I can't imagine why it would be necessary- I ask because I searched for the school I'm looking into on Webshots to try and see some pics; there were lots of in class pictures and in them all, the students were in scrubs. What gives?

Only in clinicals . . . we wore "street" clothes . . . jeans, t-shirts, sneakers . . or whatever your style of dress.

Ditto :). When we were at facilities, we wore scrubs, otherwise not. Some students did wear scrubs to class--but they didn't need to. And those of us who left for work right after class or came to class right after work would wear them out of not having time to change clothes, otherwise.

PS: There are no silly questions :)

We only had to wear our uniform (I wouldn't call them scrubs, it was a ridiculously outdated white uniform) to clinicals in the hospital, except pysch. We had to wear "business-casual" street clothes for our psych clinicals. I usually wore dress pants and a sweater with comfortable flats. We could wear whatever we wanted in lecture. Most of the time I wore comfy sweats or jeans to lecture.

there was no dress code for the didactic (lecture) portion of the program. then again, nursing was one of many majors at the university of delawre, so we were treated just like any other college students while on campus. i think we had to wear scrubs when we attended labs, but i also think that was just for junior and senior years after the lab had a major overhaul and became more advanced.

as for clinicals, we had to wear dark blue scrub pants, plain white scrub tops with the university of delaware seal on the sleeve, and our nametags. however, it was to the professors' discretion. in psych and community, we wore business casual street clothes, and a few of my instructors let us wear whatever kind of scrubs we desired.

For lectures we can wear what we want. For lab we have to at least wear our scrub top so we are "thinking like a nurse," This is the same reason we have to wear our full uniform to validations.

Haha yeah same here, plus the fact that it's been noted that students act more professionally when wearing scrubs, thus why we wear them to labs. Like most others we wear them to clinicals and day before to pick patients (or business casual with lab coat). Often we'll have them on in lecture just because we have lab or something before or after. Thankfully our "uniform" is just plain scrubs so I don't mind it - actually it's great not having to pick out clothes! They probably have all the pics on the website like that because, at least at my school, our scrubs tend to be what people first think of when they think of "nursing major." And it does look professional when you're working in the lab on "patients." I think you'll enjoy wearing them though - sounds stupid but the first time I put them on I was like "wow I really made it this far - I'm really in nursing school!" Good luck with nursing!

those photographs are really staged and nothing at all like it really is. :)

yup!!:yeahthat:

bsn program--anything you wanted to class, business casual w/lab coat for chart reviews, clinical uniform for clinical days.

Thanks for the replies everyone! TxStudentRN- you're right, I think the moment I put on scrubs I'll feel like I really made it, LOL:D

I just wanted to clarify something though- these definitely weren't promo pictures- they were not on the school website and had no affiliation with the school whatsoever. I put the school's name into a photo hosting site and basically it showed me anyone who had used the name of the school in a picture title. So there were lots of "Me and Jenny in class" and things like that; that prior students put up into their own personal albums, kwim?

I believe the only "necessary" part of wearing scrubs in class is to assist the student in becoming a nurse. Others will see you in the halls and on the parking lot, etc. and know that you are becoming a nurse. This helps you adapt a professional attitude (I hope). Otherwise, I can see no need for it unless the school is selling the uniforms and gets a kick back.
