I am a pre-nursing student located here in Las Vegas. I am very anxious to be proactive when it comes to my career change. Does anybody know of somewhere I can take to above-mentioned classes. Also any other advice in relation to different courses that can be taken to increase my chances of becoming employed after school is greatly appreciated.
I am interested in Pediatric Specialty Nursing, or a surgical Nurse. What is a good hospital to volunteer at to meet the requirements for admission to the nursing program? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated

Don't even think about the ACLS class until you need it, which will not be until you are hired somewhere. It will be completely useless to you at this point.
As for the BLS class, contact your local American Heart chapter.

the previous thread is right, don't even think about taking it just yet.if you want to just be familiar with it, try the internet like randy larson's site.for BLS, try the one in St Rose for a minimal fee or if you want, another place is the Academy of Career Enhancement in Karen Ave.

I agree with the above poster and also want to add my own two cents. In order to pass ACLS you need to have a VERY GOOD understanding of cardiac physiology and be able to interpret EKGs, and you need to be able to do it quickley. Not only that you need to be able to look at the big picture in order to understand what is occuring with a patient and why you are doing what you are doing. I do think it is wonderful that you want to get a head of the game and that you are motivated, but you would not be able to pass ACLS and it is pretty expensive.
You will need BCLS (CPR) for nursing school so it is a good idea to take that, and actually I think all people should take it, just make sure you take CPR for the healthcare professional.
