Bayonne School of Med or Holy Name Hospital?

U.S.A. New Jersey

Published

Hi friends,

I am applying to the nursing programs at the Bayonne school of medicine, and also Holy Name Hospital in teaneck NJ. Has anyone gone to these schools, or know anybody who did go to them? ANY info or opinions you ahve about their programs would be very helpful!!

Thank you and happy new year!:balloons:

More like stupid ridiculous than hard ridiculous..though some parts of the test are so subjective you can't really call it easy. It just isn't a very good measure of actual intelligence, in my opinion. I've heard other students who took the test say the same thing too.

Good luck! You will probably do just fine.:D

thank you!!!! what school did you attend?

I ended up with Holy Name, and I DO NOT regret it!! It's a stellar school!

My only comment is DO NOT pick a school based on their "NCLEX pass rate". Most schools require a certain score on a test, such as the HESI or ATI, BEFORE they will "permit" you to sit for NCLEX. So whomever in this thread claims/toots Holy Name's nclex pass rate is, I hate to say: "full of it". That said, I would def NOT to go a "diploma only" school. I would only consider Associate and above (eg: BSN) programs. But try and see if you can attend a class by shadowing a student. If the school won't let you do that, well, that tells you something. But again, do NOT make a decision based on "nclex pass" rate.

I understand your apprehension about picking a school based on the pass rate only. I would like to add to this and say you should not pick any school based on any one fact at all.

I will tell anyone who is considering Holy Name that I chose it not only because of the stellar pass rate (they don't require you to pass any scores on any tests before you take the NCLEX by the way...you simply must pass your classes and HN has a 78% passing score which is higher than most other nursing schools in the area which have a 70% passing score. I feel that this promotes academic excellence rather than focusing on NCLEX pass rates), but because I spoke to students who graduated from HN and they all had rave reviews of it. I have still never heard anyone say anything bad about the school. My peers and I have also marveled how the new RNs on the floor that graduated from HN look like they have been RNs for a few years as compared to some of the new grads from other places.

Anyone reading this thread should go where they feel most comfortable, but I definately support HN's reputation as truthfully excellent. If you want to ask me again when I graduate in 2010, I will let you know if my opinion has changed. :D

P.S. HN also has the option of getting an associates degree, it isn't just a diploma school.

Hi All

I am taking my test at Holy Name in a few weeks and I have to say I am extremely nervous about it! I bought the Kaplan book and I wondering exactly how hard the NET really is? I would appreciate any feedback I can get! Also...how long was it before you heard about an interview after taking the test?

Thank You For Your Time

Hi Shannon,

sorry if my reply is a little late. I hope you haven't already taken the test! I bought whatever book that Holy Name hospital recomended to study. I forget the name but it's on the website and in hte paperwork they mail you. I just studied everything in that book and I did very well on the test. I felt like it was an accurate represantation of what to expect. The only thing different was I actually felt the math was easier than I thought it would be, and I found the reading sections more difficult. As long as you have basic math skills down, and are intelligent enough to do higher grade level/early college level critical reading, you will be fine. The rest of the test, like the stress portion, is just silly.

I am not sure how long it took. I remember I took the test in the end of february and had an interview scheduled in very early April. I hope that helps.

Good luck! If you have any more questions about the school don't hesitate to pm me. I attend, and I absolutely love it.

Lauryn

Thank you so much for getting back to me! I have not taken the test yet but I think I am experiencing every emotion on the spectrum until I finally get it out of the way! The big day is 4/25.....I will feel like a new woman when it is all over with. I tried to PM you (I am assuming that means personal message??) but I think I sent you a friend request instead??

Would love to hear more about your experiences in school.....

Thanks Again

Shannon

HI!^^

i just want to ask to those who got interviewed for Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing, how long was the interview? and how was it? any advice? i have an interview in 3 days and i'm so nervous...

The interview itself was not very long. Definately no longer than an hour. How it was I think really depends on who interviews you. I heard some scary stories about getting interviewed by the previous director (who left the school at the beginning of this year), but I was interviewed by Mr. Febus, who was extremely laid back. For me, the interview felt more like a formality than anything else. Most of it was spent with him telling me things about the school, and less of me telling him about -me-. He told me based on my previous grades and test scores, I would most likely get into the school (and I did!)

My advice is take it seriously. Don't drink the night before (I know people who did!), show up early, dress nicely, and be polite. smile. Offer positive info about yourself without being abrasive or interrupting your interviewer.

Good luck!! The good news is if you get the interview, there is a very high rate of acceptance into the school. They don't interview people if they aren't almost def accepting you. So be happy!

Well...how did your interview go annameg? I am sure you are thrilled to have that behind you!! Keep us posted......I am taking my test at HNH in two weeks and I can't wait to see how things unfold for me! My nerves ar shot!!

Good Luck and hopefully you'll get back to us very soon with some good news!
