Baylor schedule pay

I am currently working a Baylor type schedule Friday through Mon of every weekend but my facility is trying to say I am salary all of a sudden.

Here are some things I am being told that are very confusing to me and the work place has been changing at a moments notice. (The follow pay is made up numbers)

I work 32 hrs and get paid for 40. So here are my questions:

Should I be getting paid $28.75 per hour to work 32 hours Which is what the pay for 40 hours would be? ($23.00 per hour at 40 hours = $920)

OR

Do I work $23.00 per hour but you have to PHYSICALLY work 32 hours in order to get paid for 40 hours? and then the work place will put in the extra hours to make sure you meet to 40hrs in the time clock.

So that means say I actually work 36hrs then work will only add 4 more hours to my check. NO OVERTIME, NO EXTRA REGULAR HOURS, NOTHING!!! Not a penny more than 40hrs.

IF I use PTO for a day off I actually have to use 2 days worth of PTO because I did not PHYSICALLY work 32 hrs to get paid for the 40.

Someone tell me this is not right but all of my gut feeling says that it is not right.

You post is somewhat confusing to me. I don't know what a Baylor type schedule is. There are federal and state laws that define what overtime is and isn't and who gets it. Generally speaking, you need to work more than 40 hours in a week or 80 hours in 2 weeks as an hourly employee to qualify for OT. Exempt employees (those on salary) do not get OT, meaning no time and a half, for hours work beyond 40/80, but some positions would get straight time pay for those addiditional hours. Usually when a company tries to make an hourly employee into a salary one, it's to avoid things like paying OT, but if you aren't working more than 40 hours per week, it doesn't really come into play. Also doesn't matter that if a company call 32 or 36 hours full-time, you still need to meet the 40/80 threshold in almost 100% of cases.

The answers to your other questions about your actual hourly wage or how many hours you have to actually work to get paid for 40 hours are a matter of company policy. You need to direct those questions to HR and get a copy of your facilities policies.

Your institution can structure a Baylor Plan schedule any way they like, as long as they stick to their own rules. If you work 32 hours and get paid for 40, it sounds as if you might be in a salaried position. You should have clarified that before you agreed to the plan.

Since you're working weekends, you should be able to get most of your "business of life" stuff done on your days off. If you're thinking of taking a vacation, you'll have to use 40 hours of PTO to get your full paycheck. How do holidays work for you? You may want to clarify that before you start planning your holiday schedule.

One place where I worked weekends only, I worked any holidays that fell on the weekend and had off any holidays that did not. So one year I had Christmas and New Year's off, another. Year I worked both holidays. Another hospital made me work every other holiday, regardless of where it fell in the week. One year Christmas fell on a Thursday, and our rule was we had to work the holiday and the eve of the holiday. I ended up working Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday -- all 12 hour shifts. I was exhausted! But it was fair, in that I knew up front that was the way holidays were handled, and everyone working the weekend plan was subjected to the same rules.

Working the Baylor plan has a lot of perks, but there are some drawbacks. The using 16 hours of PTO in order to take a day off and still get paid for 40 hours is probably one of them. But there should be rules on that sort of thing that your institution follows. Make sure you know what those rules are.

They is no policy on this type schedule they have given to a handful of us nurses here.

I was actually offered the position, excepted it and then after a week of working it they came and told me they had decided to make me salary. I never agreed or signed anything in agreement. I was completely floored as I would no longer have the opportunity for overtime if I needed it.

I requested information on my position and the salary as to how it all worked. A policy or rules of some sort. I had not received anything after 3 months.

Took a day off in may, used 8 hours PTO and they paid me my 40 hours pay. Recently took a day off, used 8hrs PTO and they refuse to pay my 40 hours pay.

I never received anything stating that the "non existent policy" had changed since May when I previously used PTO and got paid the 40hours.

It's all very frustrating and confusing. I was hoping more people would be familiar with the situation.

A Baylor Plan schedule is another name for a weekend incentive schedule. You either work 32 hours over the weekend and are paid for 40, or work 24 hours and get paid for 32 hours.

When I worked the Baylor Plan, I was issued an 8-hour bonus each weekend. Therefore, when I worked 32 hours, I received a bonus that amounted to 8 hours worth of pay to equal 40 hours. When I worked 24 hours, I received an 8-hour weekend bonus to receive 32 hours of pay.
