baycare new grad jobs

Published

I am a new grad rn from MD who became an RN in July 2015. I have pretty much given up on finding a job in MD and would really love to move back to the st. pete/tampa area. I graduated from Eckerd College with a BA in psych many years ago and fell in love with the area. I would love to work at All children' hospital, but I only have the ADN.

So, instead, I decided to try Baycare new grad jobs including a CLINICAL NURSE RESIDENT - GRADUATE NURSE PROGRAMS - PEDIATRICS at St. Joseph's in Tampa. The job status changed to under consideration the day after I appied (11/1/15). I also applied for the oncology nurse residencies at Morton Plant Hospital and winter haven hospital I work as a Pct in an outpatient hospital oncology department and really love working with oncology patients. My 2 areas of interest are definitely oncology and peds, but would be open to med-surg or ER as well.

If anyone has applied to any of these jobs or any RNs who work at any of these hospitals I'd love to hear from you. Do you have any idea when or if I might hear something? Do I have a shot? It would also be great if any current employees had any advice or contacts that might help me increase my chances. If any new grads are in the program how do you fell about it so far? Thanks!

Yes, it can be exhausting and I hope we both get great news soon! According to the recruiters of that particular staRN, I did not get offered a job because my resume had majority peds and they did not offer peds at all within the hopsital. So in other words, they did not want me to be trained and then leave, which I guess is understandable, but it was all based on an assumption, which was very frustrating. But anyways...I must have missed that you are from Maryland. What about John Hopkins or hospitals around there? I'm not too familiar with Maryland but I know it's smaller than FL so it must be more accessible to try other states? I wouldn't make any moves until you have something secured. I think they would understand if you suggested an interview via skype? I've seen it happen so it's not impossible. I'm driving all over FL and complaining about gas lol so I can understand that flying out is undesirable, especially around the holidays. Have you thought about a bridge program to become a BSN? I know a lot of hospitals are trying to obtain magnet status and hire BSNs.

I am definitely going to get the BSN, but was hoping to do it with the help of my employer while I'm working as an RN. I have tried Hopkins, and they had contacted me about an oncology floor position and said to list the days/times I could interview. Well, I did this, and then a week later they email me saying that the manager already interviewed enough people! So, I was "disinvited". Hopkins is also low paying, in a bad area, and you have to pay a lot of money to park as an employee. I guess they figure having their name as your employer makes up for all of that! I have had interviews for 2 jobs at University of MD and didn't get either. One of them, I don't even know why the manager interviewed me because she had zero interest in me and didn't even try to promote the unit or the job. I guess I was there so they could say they interviewed enough people. What a waste of time though because for both interviews, I then had to shadow for 2 hrs. Downtown Baltimore is also not a nice place. Lots of traffic, expensive parking, and low pay. I still apply to other places around here, but I'm losing my motivation with so much rejection. That's why I decided to start applying to FL since I loved living there and thought I'd try a different approach. So, it's either gonna be a pointless waste of time or maybe the best choice I could have made. Time will tell!

Oh, and for the StaRN west Florida, the recruiter said they do not offer Skype interviews and she said I'd have to decide if I wanted to fly down and stay in a hotel at my expense!

Ah okay. Well sometimes you need to give a little to get something great! You will find something, but as someone with no experience, I've learned that being picky will not get you far. If I wasn't picky at the beginning, I probably would be working already! But anyways, a lot of those places, especially in Tampa have colleges such as USF around and will have apartments for cheap or live with roommmates. That way you won't have to worry about rent too much if the pay isn't exactly what you imagined. There are a TON of StaRN programs in that area, (St. Pete, Tampa, Bradenton, Brandon, Trinity, Tarpon Springs, etc). They are all neighboring cities. There is also an opening for a grad program at St. Anthony's in St Pete (also within Baycare). They do not offer peds but they have pretty much every adult floor you can think of. Also Florida Hospital Tampa has a GN application up and you have until Jan 6th. If I see anything else, I will try and keep a lookout for you and update on here.

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or if anyone will notice that I commented on here, but I'll give it a shot.

I'll be graduating my nursing program in May and will be looking for my first nursing position at BayCare (I already work for BayCare but in a non-clinical area).

I've seen everyone talking about residency programs and graduate nurse programs and I see that BayCare lists that as an option on their webpage but can't find any information on it!

How do I apply for a residency program? Will it show up as a normal job on their Baycare Taleo job page? Or is there a separate place to look for specifically graduate nurse programs?

Please help! I'm so nervous!

That is not a stupid question at all! That's what this forum is for....to offer support, information, suggestions, advice etc..... I have actually applied to some of the nurse residency positions but have never been called. Two of them have said "under review" since November! I don't have a BSN, so maybe that makes it harder for me. But, anyway it doesn't look like they have anything posted, but when they do it will say "clinical nurse resident" or RN - clinical nurse resident" in the job title. Which hospital do you work for? At least you're already a Baycare employee. That should help! Do you like it there? I would love to get a position at St. joe's in pediatrics or an oncology position but not much success in getting an interview. Good luck in your last semester. You're smart to start early, I wish I had because I've been looking since I passed the NCLEX in July!

Keep searching as "clinical nurse resident" or " clinical nurse internship." Things will eventually come up! You have plenty of time!

has anyone applied to the Baycare nurse residency program recently. I have been waiting to hear back and am getting SUPER anxious!
