Basic nursing question

What exactly is a bathroom privilege? if you have a urinary catheter then does that mean that you do not have BRP because you do not use the bathroom. I know thats a stupid question. just wondering. Another question is what is the difference between bed alarms and bed prevention? How do you know if a person is on bed prevention?

BRP is that a person should be mainly resting, but can get up to use the bathroom. Even though a person may have a foley they can still have bms too.

I haven't heard of bed prevention, but a bed alarm is a long thin flat piece of plastic/metal that goes under a patient while they are in bed. If a patient starts to get up and the weight is lifted off of it, it will alarm, letting you know to come into the room to check the patient.

Edit - I don't know why this thread is putting my response above Butterfly8's; Butterfly is the OP

i agree with the above except that, in my experience, a bed alarm can also be a device pinned to the pt and pinned to the bedsheet. i, too, have never heard of bed prevention.
