Do you measure it at the same time every day or after you have slept the longest regardless of the time? In all the literature I've seen, there's no clarifiction. All info/input is appreciated. Thanks!
I really liked the various/combined methods. I used to track my (TMI WARNING) mucous. It is a huge sign and would only use the OPK's when that sign told me it was near. My Dr. recommended the OPK's. I got pregnant the first month my DH and I tried, only to lose that one at 9.5 weeks. It took 11 months after that to get preggo again. I finally did, after 4 rounds of Clomid and one failed IUI. BUT, if not for the information in that book, I would still be trying and my baby boy is now almost 13 months old!
Good luck, and sometimes it is hard to be patient, I know that for certain!
Praying for a baby for you!
Oh what a great thread!
Taking cahrge of you Fertility is essential for people trying to conceive! You might also want to check out fertilityfriend.com for charting help. The rule of thumb is, you subtract 0.1 of a degree from your temp for every half hour later you wake up, and add 0.1 degree for every half hour earlier you wake up, all while trying to take the temp at the same time, with at least 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep. I have a clear blue easy fertility monitor that I would fight to the death over, that I got on ebay for $100 (that's a steal).
I have been charting for about 18 cycles now, and I've got my side down to a science! Unfortantely, that's not where our fertility problems lie.
Anyhow, how's your Luteal Phase. when do you normally ovulate, do you have good quality cervial mucus, does your DH clear out the pipes frequently...? All these things your DR (or midwife) will ask, so it's good to know them before hand. There is also a lot of vitamins and lifestyle changes that can help out both your eggs and his sperm. And please....dont' smoke (either of you) and you should stay away from ibuprofen!!!!
Then, we might be getting somewhere. Who knew it was so hard to have a baby.......?
I have a question about this also...I am just coming off the pill and am wondering what all your experiences have been for getting your cycles back to normal after coming off hormones?? It has been about 24 days since I started charting. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!
The only thing I am pretty much doing right now is taking my basal temps because I am not producing any cervical fluid!!

I have one of those fertility monitors, given to me by a friend. I was going to use it the first month off the pill, but the directions recommended waiting at least two cycles before using it, so I'd at least have an idea if my cycle was regular or not (I have PCOS and was never regular as a teenager before going on the pill). The first month I had my period exactly on time at 28 days. Haven't had a second period yet, so haven't had the chance to use the monitor yet. I did check for ovulation for 5 days using one of the cheap boxed kits, and I didn't ovulate when I was supposed to.
I highly recommend Taking Charge of You Fertility and http://www.fertilityfriend.com. And it would benefit you to start checking your cervical mucous too.
A friend of mine was taking depo, and when she came off the shot, she didn't start ot ovulate on her own. She had something like a 200 day cycle! She took clomid and got pregnant on her second round, but started to ovulate on her first round.
Estrogen is what makes your cervical fluid, so if your aren't producing good qualities of that, then you're probably not going to ovulate either (this cycle). Just because you get a period doesn't mean that you ovulated, though. You may get some anovulatory bleeding. That's why it's so great to chart! Does you chart look like it is erratic-up and down all the time?
Gompers, do you take anything for your PCOS, like glucophage? The monitor is very sensitive. It only wants you to test on certain dates and at the time you set if for. It was frustrating at first, but it gets better. People with PCOS will sometimes show OPK + towards the end of their cycles just before their period. Somewhere on the internet there are instructions to clear out the history, which is why is says to wait 2 cycles. It doesn't want to confuse your data with the previous user. If you need it, I can find it.
Another great community is ovusoft.com/forums. It's free, unlike fertilityfriends which used to be free (ff charting is still free, though, but ousoft charting is not free).
ErikaAnn -- Your cycles could regulate quickly or it could take a while. Everyone's different. You can find a lot of information at the forum above.
I agree, Fertilityfriend was awesome! I had never had problems,on or off bc, or anything EVER. After my m/c I had all KINDS of issues, spotting early in the luteal phase, longer time until ovulation, everything. My 4 rounds of clomid were a bust, as was one IUI. I had just had my first appt with an RE when he saw that I'd already ovulated that cycle, turns out, it was the magic one and I was preggo. Turns out, I have cysts all over my "dominant" ovary (no, you DON'T alternate ovaries as was previously thought). My Left one usually doesn't "work" but that IS the one that my son came from. My right ovary is painful at ovulation and was the one that I usually ovulated from, but looks as though there is a problem with the egg quality from that one.
That book taught me more about myself than anything, and my OB loved seeing the charts!!
I was on Prometrium for the first 13 weeks of my pregnancy, my luteal phase had "issues".
Good luck those TTC!!
