Hi,
Is there anyone out there who has experience working for this hospital?
I'm considering whether or not to apply for scholarship with them, but of course they want the work commitment for it. Is it a good move or will I live to regret it?

I am also very interested in this organization, as I am moving to the South Jacksonville area early next year (currently have a home being built in NW St. John's county) and they are building a new hospital near my new home. Does anyone have any experiences w/ Baptist Health of Northeast Florida that they can share, from a nursing perspective?? Thanks

Hey ... I never worked for Baptist, but I DID work across the river at St. Vincent's Hospital and loved it. I did their critical care internship and worked in their "big" surgical ICU on the 3rd floor. That's where the basis of most of my critical care knowledge comes from ... I'm really glad I worked there.
From what I remember, Baptist and St. Vincent's were about to merge together becasue if competition from Shands (who was supposed to merge with University Hospital). Well SHnads never merged, so Baptist and St. Vincent's decided to call it quits, too. Then there was a lot of battling over nurses (Baptist would raise their pay scale, then St. Vincent's would follow, and on and on).
The main difference with Baptist is its affiliation with Wolfson's Children's Hospital. So if you want to specialize in pediatric nursing, then you may want to stick with Baptist. But do some research on pay scale around there. You never know ... there are five hospital's to choose from (including the Mayo Clinic) and they may all be trying to one up each other.

I have a question...how do I research the Jacksonville hospitals for pay rates, hiring of new grads, and other pertainent info?
I spoke to a nurse recruiter with Baptist today. She said new grads start at either 17.25 or 17.50 an hour depending on whether they are assigned to med surg or critical care. Night differential is 3.25 and weekend diff is 5.00.
she also said if you have outstanding student loans she can approve a one time $3000.00 payment to go towards them.
I don't know if you're interested in the new facility under construction but she said they will not initially be hiring new nursing grads for that facility.
Does anyone know when they will be hiring for the new Baptist South hospital?? I am moving very close to that hospital early next year.
Thanks

i think the address is www.bmcjax.com
Yes, we may very well be co-workers in the future. It is Baptist South that I am really hoping to work at. I am also currently building a home, in NW St. John's county--along CR 210. I just flew back from there Tues. night, as I had to go there for a plan rewiew on my house. That will be the closest hospital for me. I am hoping to come down on a travel assignment initially for the transition, until my house here is sold and we close on the new one--not expected until next May. I have never done travel nursing before, so I have to look into that a little bit.

I'm hoping to work at Baptist South also, but I'll take what I can get. I just signed a scholarship work assignment with them. Flager Hospital in St. Augustine is actually closer for me. Have you checked them out? I stopped there and they gave me a whole package. They offer a $2000.00 sign on bonus. Also, if you sign on with Baptist and have outstanding student loans they'll give you 3000.00 toward them. Expect salary shock though.
Unfortunately, I am very aware of the salary shock I can expect. Flagler is one of the hospitals I called when checking area salaries, and it was the lowest quote I got by far. It is a shame what they get away w/ paying nurses down there. The cost of living there isn't as low as used to be ( I moved up here in 1995 from Altamonte Springs-- just NE of Orlando).
Well, I sent out he application for FL licensure today. Waiting to see how long it takes--after all the stories here of it taking many months. I'm just one more step closer to actually moving!!
keep us updated on your progress. Hopefully it will go smoothly. I just got my check from Baptist the other day. I will say one thing for them, they have been extremely prompt in processing my scholarship.
