Hey Everybody,

Does anybody know wot the Baptist Health system in Florida is like to work for???Which area is the Best and wots there ER department like???Any Info at all would be DElighted :smokin:

Hello.....Not sure what part of Florida you are going to be in. But I am in Pensacola, FL and I work for Baptist Hospital here. I love it. I have been there for 2 years and really dont have anything negative to say at all. However, I just recently have learned that the Baptist in Jacksonville, FL is not affiliated with Baptist here in Pensacola. So it might be different depending on what part of Florida you are going to! Let me know if I can help anymore than that! Good luck!

What part of the state? Not sure about Panhandle and Jacksonville, but Baptist Health in South Florida has a very nurse-friendly reputation. Of course, cost of living there is outrageous.

Specializes in ICU, Telemetry, neuro,research.

Baptist Health South Florida is a magnet hospital group in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. There are a few Baptist Hospitals in other parts of Florida but they are not a part of this organization. There is Mariners in Key West, Homestead Hospital in Homestead, Baptist Hospital and South Miami Hospital in Kendall and South Miami and various "Urgent Care" centers throughout the Miami Metropolitan area for less serious injuries that may not require necessarily a full sized ED. Each of the hopitals within the "family" has a distinctly different enviornment. Baptist has been nominated by various organizations and ranked by various polls and magazines, Newsweek, Working Mother, Time, US News among others, as the best place to work and most employee friendly. They have a great benefit package and offer housing to out of town nurses. They have an agreement with Miami Dade College as a campus for the nursing program. The pay scale is competitive considering Miami's overall low pay rates when compared nationally to cities as large as Miami. Baptist Health South Florida has plans to break ground on yet another facility in West Kendall. They are undergoing expansion of the main Kendall campus at this time. For more information see www.baptisthealth.com. I hope this was helpful.

I am currently in the Baptist Scholar program for nurses, and spoken to a couple of nurses. From what I have heard and seen, it is a GREAT organization/company to work for. It was listed in Fortune 500! So I feel very confident in who I will be working for after completing my BSN.

Tiff I don't know much about Jackson. But what I have seen with Baptist, it is a great scholarly environment. I go to Nova, so I think you would have different professors than I would. My professors work for Baptist, but they are adjunct at Nova. They are very helpful, they let us understand everything about the hospital setting. ANd since we will all be working there after graduation, they refer a lot to the hospital. One thing I like about Baptist, is that they have several different hospitals. So when I am done, I can go to either of the 5 (i think it is 5). So if Kendall doesnt have an opening to a department, I can try South Miami...very flexible. Either one you decide, it will be a good experience with being in the hospital from the start.

Hope this helps...

Specializes in Medical-Surgical Telemetry.
Baptist Health in Jacksonville, FL, is not officially affiliated w/ the other Baptist-named hospitals in the state. Baptist Health in Jacksonville is comprised of 5 hospitals, and obtained Magnet status at the very end of last year. I did all my school clinicals there and hired on there after I finished school/passed my NCLEX. They're non-profit, and don't pay the most in the area, but the ratio is 1:5 and I like it there.

:DBaptist Health South Florida. http://www.baptisthealth.net I went thru the scholars program and it was ok. The good part about the scholars program is that you already have a foot in the door at the hospital and it may make it easier to land the position that you want. If you are looking for exposure to the sickest patients and a huge variety then I would definitely go with Jackson. One day there is equivelant to a few months at a BHSF facility! Jackson pays better than Baptist I believe. It is up to you and what you are looking for. Baptist is building a huge new ED and they are hiring a lot of nurses. The training is crazy and overwhelming, but if you can cut it, they will take you. They do hire new grads in the ED as well as ICU, but you have to go thru a lot of training and you have to have a high GPA from nursing school before they will consider you for ICU training. good luck

Hi NiesyLuv0o,

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to know if you can provide any pointers. I am going in for my interview with the panel of nurses at Baptist tomorrow morning. I am very nervous and would appreciate any feedback you can give about the admission process and the program itself. Thank you! :heartbeat

RN42011,

What school are you going to?

They ask the typical interview questions...Why do you want to be a nurse? What are your weaknesses (be honest, but think before answering this). I think they ask one question to see how you think through a situation. I dont remember because it is almost 2 years since I did mine. Just be natural, be yourself and if you have any questions, be sure to ask. They may seem intimidating, but I had some of them as instructors and they are very "cool."

Hi NiesyLuv0o,

Thank you so much for your reply. I am going to Barry. How about you? Well, I had my interview this morning and was very nervous. I was able to see your reply before I went in, which made me feel better! They did seem intimidating. I gave it my best and all I can do now is hope I am in! Thanks again for your help :)
