I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?
I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!
Now what are the pre-reqs????
I remember the last time they changed the pre-reqs.. I had already completed like 5 classes that were no longer a pre-req or required by the time I applied.. how frustrating that was.. I could have already had all this done... but Its good for the new people coming along applying for the RN program and makes it easier for them to get on that long list.. boy that list is going to end up being 2-3 yrs long if they make the pre-reqs shorter.. Dont ya think?
Congrats on applying.. hope you get in soon
I honestly believe they have hired a bunch of new educators. They've also cut out the provisional application. The pre-req's now are: CHM130+Lab, BIO201, PSY101, and MAT122. I had also already taken HCC145, and ENG101. I was actually registered for BIO205 in January but I changed it to PSY101 now. :) I do hope it won't affect the wait list too much!
Just a note about pre-req's. I started the BNFP in October and had already taken med terminology the semester before. The issue is there are about 6 people in my class who haven't taken it because it is not listed as a pre-req. Basically the instructors gave the impression that not having med terminology is a disadvantage and they'll try to incorporate more of it into the curriculum. They were under the assumption that everyone had taken it. I highly recommend taking it even though it's not a pre-req, because I know some of the students who didn't take it had a harder time understanding concepts. It's an easy online course.

This makes a lot of sense and I had read something similar in another thread. Once you stop and think about it, it does indeed make a TON of sense..
I believe it's only 2 credits and many folks said it was a very easy course. I'm taking my first round of pre-reqs with BIO156 and CHM130 and next semester when I take A&P I, I'm going to also add the nursing terms class. I wanted to do it this go round but it's been a while and I'm doing this online and wanted to see what I could truly handle.
I could imagine that class can only help you - I may even sign up next month if the load isn't as bad as I think it will be since Rio allows class starts every month
Medical Terminology is actually only 1 credit. At Rio everything is at home, except for the actual final. It truly was the easiest class I've ever taken. I did take Latin all throughout high school, which helped me immensely.
I think my CHM labs have some virtual and real life contact (while it seems the BIO lab is all internet). Hmm, I'm seriously thinking about taking this too.. I imagine it will help when I take A&P I next semester..
If you can, take it before BIO201! On the BIO201 midterm there was a question I wasn't sure about... I just applied what I learned in Medical Terminology and I guessed the right answer. :)
Unless you registered for the hybrid CHM class, everything will be online. You do get a huge lab kit and you perform real life labs at home, however you never meet with an instructor unless it is a hybrid class. You're right about the BIO classes, everything is online. For BIO201 that means assignments from the lab manual (no actual labs), for BIO156 there are some real labs, they're all really cool! :)

I'm pretty confident with the interview, however only time will tell! They are supposed to let us know sometime in the middle of November if we get in or not. Everyone gets a letter letting them know one way or another. When did you apply? They just asked your basic questions about who you were and how nursing relates to your life. They want to know you are dedicated and have the compassion it takes to be a nurse.
