I live in the state of Florida and am applying to work at Good Sam Med Ctr, I am currently in ICU and have over 8 yrs ER experience prior to that(20+ yrs of hospital based nursing experience). Any info I could get about Good Sam or the other Banner facilities would be a great help. Thanks in advance.....

I don't live in AZ, but I know Banner is a magnet hospital, so that definitely says something about working there as a nurse. :)

I worked at Desert Sam. I worked in the NICU, what a bad place to work. The ratios were whatever came through the door. I had 10 infants twice. My coworkers were mostly nice, but of course the manager picks a nurse with an absoloutly toxic attitude to be Charge. When they were real short (every single day) the hospital would promise an extra $100 per shift, they never paid me.. EVER. They really dumped heavily on floats, I felt really bad for anyone forced to float there. I would RUN from Banner and never look back!

Specializes in generalMedical surgical; MICU/SICU/CVICU.

I work at Good Sam in the ICU, and have been in different ICU units. I am currently in the med-surg ICU on 11CD. Great people to work with. I have been in a different ICU and would tell you to run far far away from that unit and demand to work in another, PM me if you want to know what unit this is. The people, orientation, attitudes, etc.....were horrible on this one unit, I was about to quit the hospital, but thought I would try another ICU since they have 12 ICU units.....and I am much happier.

12 ICU units...OMG! Our hospitals here, even the huge teaching hospitals never have more than one or two. Usualy a general ICU and a neuro ICU, but often they just have one big one. My last unit was 10 bedded and we cared for everything.
