Bakersfield College Fall 2018

Published

Starting this thread to hopefully get an idea of the point system at BC now that it's no longer a lucky hat. I'm applying for Fall 2018 and have applied for another program too. Have yet to take my TEAS 6, but I will soon. GPA is not too strong and I dont have a lvn license or paramedic... that gives +10 points. 😩

I think you can try retaking the classes you need elsewhere like porterville or cerrocosso , and they will take those grades instead of the BC ones. Don't quote me on that though. You can always try LVN to RN. That's what I'm trying to do if I'm selected for LVN first. Dont get discourage; there's other routes to become and RN.

I was informed that I cannot retake the courses because I received passing grades, therefore would not be accepted by Admissions and Records. Thank you! looking into programs out of state now.

Who told you that you had this semester to apply and get in otherwise tough luck? Did you meet with a counselor to review your transcript? What did your denial letter say today? Did it say you do not meet qualifications or something? Just curious cause I also had to do remediation program but I had not been informed about being ineligible with new point system application....

I was told this by the nursing counselor Vanessa, that I and other in my shoes would be made eligible for application one semester only, and then we would be judged via the new criteria going forward. I am not able to retake A&P to get better grades because I currently have passing grades. Therefore, Admissions and Records would not accept my retakes, and I would consequently only be penalized for having retakes on my future applications. Therefore I am ineligible moving forward because my science pre-reqs (that are 7 years old) come out to a 2.4 GPA. My denial letter said that I was eligible but not selected.

Hi RNAVARRO13,

I noticed your name on the CSUB thread as well; if you are accepted there, which are you choosing?! And how many semesters of applying to both programs is this for you, if you don't mind me asking?

Hi jrooney17,

I am applying to CSUB and it will be my second time after applying back in 2016. Also, I have applied to BC one other time and it was last application period for spring 2018. As far as which school I will be attending, that I am not so sure of. I wont find out from CSUB till late-May to August. Although, I see BC at an advantage because it is more affordable and is a year shorter than CSUB.

Congrats RNAVARRO13!

Thank you so much gramirez18!

Keep me updated on the CSUB thread! I will be posting there now as I wait to hear from them too. Congrats on finally getting accepted to BC!! :)

Absolutely and thank you jrooney17! I wish you the best for CSUB!!

I m alternate too but don't know how it works!!

FROM BC WEBSITE AND BROCHURE:

"All conditionally enrolled students and alternates will be required to take ATI TEAS, a state approved nursing assessment test. Students need to study and test using the ATI TEAS, 6th edition, as earlier editions are no longer accepted. Students must rank at or above 62% on their first attempt on the ATI TEAS exam to be eligible for admission into the program. Students not meeting this criteria will be offered a remediation program."

"Conditional enrollment is the reservation of a seat prior to the ATI TEAS Assessment. Once the top ranked students have completed the assessment, a re-ranking will occur, in which the top qualified students will move from conditional enrollment to "officially accepted" in the ADN program."

Perhaps after re-ranking, alternates can move up to officially accepted if one scores high enough on the TEAS to get ahead of others in points. The other case could be what I just mentioned, plus alternates moving up when those who were accepted choose not to go. This is just my best guess.

Thanks for the info.

Did anyone not get an email??? I'm freaking out. I got a notice that notices will be out no later today at 12:00pm but nothing.

Does anyone know if you just need a 62% to go from conditionally accepted to officially accepted? Or if you have gotten conditionally accepted, are you still trying to get as much points from the TEAS score for the supposed reranking?

62% is the minimum score needed to pass. Once everyone that has been conditionally enrolled (or selected as an alternate) has taken the TEAS, everyone will be re-ranked based on their overall points. If an alternate does well on the test and their points surpass someone who was conditionally enrolled, then they have a chance to be accepted. If someone who was conditionally enrolled does not pass the TEAS, then they will no longer be accepted into the program or if they only pass with the minimum, they can lose their spot to someone who scored higher.

Where'd you get this info from?
