Baker/MCC students, class question

Published

I only have 1 class left to take of my pre-reqs next semester so I need one more small class in order to still be part time and keep my financial aid.

I was looking at a online computer class of either power point or electronic spread sheets. I was leaning towards the spread sheets because it would be valuable outside of school if I did not get into the nursing program, but the power point would be helpful in classes later.

Which one would you take?

I think spread sheets. Anyone can figure out how to do power point, but spread sheets can be a bit more complicated if you're not familiar with it. I can do power point stuff, and I was able to just figure it out on my own - no class needed. However, I don't think I can do a spread sheet to save my life! I also think you would be doing spread sheets more often than you would power point.

That's what I was thinking to. I was looking at the core education that they use for the bachelors degree and you need 2 computer electives and I have taken most of the options already.

I agree with the spread sheet advice! Excel is super complicated, I use it all the time but still have a hard time! A class would be very beneficial

An entire class on spreadsheets? Seems kind of extreme. I think we covered everything I ever needed to know in one session of my computer class at MSU and I used spreadsheets daily at work.

another option might be a PHED class, I think its required for the program and you can get your CPR certification out of the way in some of them!

Baker only has one CPR and First Aid class and it is only one day long and 1 credit. I wish they would add it in like MCC does with an actual class. szyman27 yeah it is a little extreme but it is only 3 weeks long where are normal classes are 10 weeks. My mother-in-law says I should take power point so I am not so overwhelmed with that and my other science class, the problem with the 3 and 6 week classes are they really shove it down your throat in a short period of time.

Just go for the Power Point then. Both PP and Excel are great skills to have. I was annoyed with having to the computer class back in college but I do use what I learned quite often. Putting together a polished presentation is always impressive.

I vote for spreadsheet...I was just wishing that I had that skill as I was doing one of my assignments for 1730 at MCC. My 2 cents :)

Hoot

I don't know what you chose or if you are still trying to decide... But here is my :twocents: worth. I come from a background in which I use the Microsoft office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access) on a daily basis... I honestly think if you have to do a power point presentation in class that you can easily learn it and won't feel much anxiety once you "put your hands on it". In fact, if you have PP installed now on your computer, check it out now before you "might" have to use it. I would also be glad to help.

The Excel would be the better of the choice in my opinion. In excel you can learn to set up functions and run math, statistical calculations, etc. That might be useful when learning to do med calculations? I don't know... haven't tried...

But either way, it's helping to improve you!
