Bad attitudes in the ED

Published

Im currently working as an ED tech, I need to know if all ED doctors have crappy attitudes and Egos the size of mountains. Nurses who backstabb each other and nagging, complaining techs or is it just were I work. I really want to be a ED nurse, but I am starting to change my mind. HELP:scrying:

I thank all of you for your responses. I will continue to pursue my career in the ED, probably not at this location. I will graduate in May. Thanks again.

Glad to hear you haven't given up on all of us :nurse:

My ER is great, we work (and play) well together. There is friction here and there, grumbles about this person or that one once in a while, but considering the stress of a trauma center surprisingly little. Our docs throw a party for the whole staff every Christmas. Our biggest problems are with management (hospital got "partnered" with a big corp. lately, too polite to call it a takeover). I've been in this ER going on 15 years, there are nurses who've been here longer (not on nights anymore though!). Several of our docs have been here longer than that.

no, not all places are like this....please look into another er. i was in similar situation. i worked in one er for a few years and things got really bad. a big lack of compassion from a large number of the staff, anyway i agonized over the decision to move. luckily i had a friend that worked their too that wanted to move too. she encouraged me to move on to another er. i heard a lot "its like this every where you go", "the grass isn't greener". but i am sooo glad i moved. the er i am in now has great doctors, i mean you can't ask for better people. the administration actually cares about the people and it feels like a family (dysfunctional at times) but you know everyone cares. so please, look into another place before you give up on er.
