Background Checks

O.K. I am so confused. I am 24 and started going to school again. I would love to go into nursing but I am confused about the way the board evalutes people with criminal records. All I keep coming up with is it's done on an individual basis. I was convicted of a violent felony when I was nineteen and spent four months in jail. It was an isolated incident. I have since made a complete turn around. My concern is that I will spend my money putting myself through school and will be denied. I know someone who had several felony drug convictions and she got her license. Has anyone out there been in this position or know of anyone with circumstances similar to mine that weren't denied. Any information would be much appreciated.

Most nursing schools are strict. You can't even get accepted if you are taking Phentermine, yet alone convicted of a felony. More important, if you get in and make it through, it is up to your state if they give you a license or not.

I wouldn't waste time talking with the nursing school about your criminal record nor would I necessarily trust whatever they tell me. What's to say they won't just take your $$ and say 'sorry' if you can't get a license...they made their buck. Deal with your state BNE...thats my advice. I sure wouldn't spend all the time and money in nursing school if I wasn't dead sure i could get a license. Why speculate...go directly to the licensing board. Good luck.

Hi, folks! Think I came across the notion in this thread that all we need do to erase a prior criminal record is to get a lawyer to file for an expungement.

Don't believe it's quite that simple. There are specific State rules governing under what conditions expungements may be applied for. Additionally, some crimes don't even qualify for this treatment. Never heard of "automatic" expungements... all applications have to be reviewed / investigated individually.

Check NCLEX Aplication form(any state) ,what is it , you have to answer?

Call your State boards send them a letter with this question

Power and control hungry that they are

may refuse your application ,after you finish your education
