background checks?

So my school BSN program requires a background check that we have to have done before school starts in 2 weeks!

Where can I find a cheap one? All the ones I've found are near $100, which seems kind of high to me. It has to be one that can do student background checks since, I am only 20 and I still live at home, and apart from a checking account don't have much credit.

Please let me know asap!

They are making you pay for your OWN background check????

Thats usually up to the school/employer to conduct, not you.

I've had background checks for employment many times, I've never had to pay for it myself.

Ya we have to pay for our own. All my past jobs have paid for them, but I guess school is different.

Well ... that sucks.

In that case I don't know what to tell you. Ask the school. If they are requiring it, they must have someone that they can refer you to.

I had to get a CORI check for pediatrics, but thats probably overkill for a school. I'd say google backround checks, I know there are websites that do them. As far where to get a cheap one I have no idea.

Clarify: What kind of background check are they asking for? Criminal or credit history? If you need a criminal background check, see your local law enforcement agency and they can refer you to someone local. I would think they would be looking for a criminal background check. If you had a record as a juvenile they will probably not be able to access those records.

If your school is requiring you to get a background check (criminal or credit) I would ask them who they recommend before paying for anything. They might know of a company that does it for students at a discount or maybe even have a contracted rate with. It doesn't hurt to ask and might save you some money.

You need to call the school because usually they are VERY specific of which company they want to do the background check.

i had to pay for a background check for school too. my school uses www.certifiedbackground.com it cost me $65.00 but that is because i have lived in three states during my lifetime, so my criminal checks involved more counties. the company checks your credit (for the purpose of obtaining past addresses) and runs criminal checks in those counties. the company is jacho approved and many of the ccne accredited universities uses this company. also, your background check comes back to you in acrobat reader pdf format, which is convenient because you can e-mail the results if need be.

generally, your school will have a preferred vendor, so i would double check with the school for suggestions of who to use.
