Bachelor degree for ADN

Published

Why would somebody get a bachelors in something else and apply to ADN? Is it better to get healthcare experience while waiting? I don't understand why community colleges give points to people with bachelor degrees even if it has nothing to do with nursing.

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

I had a previous bachelors degree before considering going into nursing. I chose the community college route for my ASN as my entry point to nursing because of cost.

Specializes in mental health / psychiatic nursing.

I would assume some community colleges give points for prior degrees because it shows past success in college level course work. Many people (like myself) are career changers who initially went to school for something else, have worked for several years (or raised families, or traveled, or otherwise done other things) before deciding to go to school for nursing.

Health care experience while completing pre-reqs or on waitlist can be a good idea (however if you have a high paying non-healthcare job you will want to examine finances first).
