i found out this afternoon my younger sister has been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma. over the past year she had been c/o cyclical nipple pain, had a mammogram and came back negative. she went for a second mammogram this past thursday because a lump was now palpable. they ordered a stat ultrasound and did find a 3 cm mass. from what i understand, ductal carcinoma is typically in situ....this one has already invaded her breast nodules...they did 7 core biopsies this past thursday. she has an appointment this monday with her surgeon/oncologist. she was asking me so many questions today; i did not share with her anything specific and tried to be vague. i want her to talk with the surgeon first. the surgeon and her md even called her at home this morning. she also told me during the biopsies and ultra sound, she was surrounded by md, surgeon, social services; she perceived it to be getting all this attention. now, she is a commissioner in a big city here so i told her it was because of who she is that she was getting all this attention. she told me that only her md knows that she's commissioner. from what i'm reading, the prognosis is not good. does anyone here have any input.....i want to know everything and nothing but the truth. please.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear the news.

I know what it's like to have sister with cancer, although mine was older than me. It was the hardest thing ever for all of us to go through. I'll keep you and your sis in my thoughts :o

Hello,

I am not a nurse, as a matter of fact I am just starting nursing school this week. However, I was on this board to find out any useful websites with credible info on breast cancer myself. I am so sorry to hear of your sisters news. Unfortunatly, I know the anger, hurt and frustration of seeing someone you dearly love battle this disease.:crying2: My aunt (ironically named Lisa)who just turned 44 has just found out her breast cancer has reoccured. October would have been her 8 year cancer free mark. She has metastatic bc this time in the bone- the skull and the ribs. Her Dr.s told her there is hope and this is not a death sentence!!! She is on a drug now called aromasin(spelling??) to hopefully halt any progression. I want you to know that your sister, her family, and you are in my prayers at this difficult time. There is NOTHING impossible with the Lord!!! My aunt is one of the people who deals with it better by talking about it, your sister may or may not be, but she is frustrated with constantly talking about it. So, I got her a journal and made her a "journal jar". You write down different ideas on paper tear and fold them and put them all in the jar. Each day she takes out a slip paste it in her journal and writes about it below it. Stuff like, tell a funny story that happened to you in grade school, describe the birth of your children, what did you homeplace look and smell like as a child, describe your wedding day. It has really helped occupy some free time that would otherwise be worry time. Anyway, may God Bless your sister and your family and if I can help in ANYWAY just let me know. Sometimes it is good to talk or just to let things off your chest.:rotfl:
