Azusa Pacific University MSN-NP Spring 2016

Published

Has anyone applied to Azusa Pacific University MSN-NP program for Spring 2016? Which specialty? Just wanted to start a thread that will keep us all updated. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'll definitely try to work full time for as long as possible, tuition is too expensive not to.

I was looking at the MSN FNP Admission requirements. Regarding the work experience requirement, how long does the experience need to be?

Thanks

Wanted to congratulate everyone who was accepted and by now has been practicing as an FNP. :) Its been over 4 years since this discussion was started. I wanted to know if anyone can provide any insight regarding schedule. I've attempted to ask this question, but since I haven't been accepted (applied for Spring 2020) no information is currently available. Wanted to know what the schedule is to figure out what days I should plan on taking off from work. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I graduated Dec 2018. I have a very heavy load besides school because I am in the sandwich generation. I started in Spring 2016 and finished in Fall 2018. I had a part-time and a per diem job. My per diem was very flexible that didn't require me to work every week. Most of us either did that or just per diem (the ones who didn't need medical benefit from work). It was definitely not easy but doable.

Hi! I know this is an older thread but I am currently filling out my application for Spring 2021 FNP. How competitive is it? What are they looking for with admissions? I'm super nervous. I live really close to the main campus so this is the most optimal school to go to for me.

I don't know what exactly they are looking for but throughout my entire program, they focused on spiritual care and care for the underserved population. When I was there, FNP program on the main campus was hard to get in. Everyone told me that I would not have any issue to land a job if I did not mind taking a pay cut. Turned out it was way harder than I expected. I don't quite agree to take a pay cut because it basically allows employers to keep getting lower each time they hire a NP. As for APU being your preference school, I would really ask myself again what you are looking for from the program if I were you. I live 50 miles away from the main campus, I don't like driving but to me, it's doable because it's only once a week for the lecture. However, it is really difficult to find a clinical placement that keeps in mind you may be placed in a clinic that is far away from the campus. Hope this helps!

Thank yo for your insight. I'm hoping to get into the FNP but I did put gero primary as my 2nd choice. I live only about 4-5 miles from the main campus so that's why APU is my first choice. I did graduate from CSULA but they only accept once a year.

Hi I know this is a late thread but can anyone who’s currently in the program or recently graduated share some information regarding clinical placement. Does the school take care of finding clinical sites and preceptors?

Last time I talked to my coworker a month or so ago I remember she had mentioned they DO find clinical placement for you. Very fortunate. Wish my school next door (I'm at Western Uni) doesn't ?

I graduated Dec 2018. You can refer to my previous post regarding clinical placement. Hope it helps!

Hi @Vikki09,

I found your contribution to this thread very helpful. I’m applying to the MSN FNP program for Fall 2021, and I have a few questions. What did you mean when you said that you’d be taking a pay cut? How difficult is it to find employment post graduation and does Azusa provide resources to help you find work? Also, on their website they say that clinicals are done in underserved communities, and for the homeless. How was your clinical experience? Were you required to attend chapel as a graduate student?
