Azusa Pacific University 2011/2012 Applicants

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello all,

I'm applying to APU's NP program this January and am sooo excited and nervous! I'm really trying to get accepted to start in Fall 2011 as I don't want to wait until spring 2012. This is my first choice (I've already applied to another school here) and I've GOT to get in! Is anybody out there waiting for decisions or has advice for the application process? I would've applied sooner, but they just implemented a rule where you have to have 12 completed credits for science, so I had to wait until grades got posted.

WOOHOO! CAN'T WAIT TO START!

I got my rejection letter from Azusa today. I'm so bummed. Guess I'm on to year three of the application cycle and taking over more pre-reqs that are expiring :banghead:

I still am crossing my fingers for the rest of you!

I found out yesterday that I was not accepted into the program. They only accept 20, and like mentioned above, there is no waitlist unless you are already accpeted and want to start sooner. So if you're not the top 20 applicants, you're not getting in. It seems like a weird system to me...

Big congrats to those top 20 though!

Never heard either way from them. I've basically just given up on trying to get in there, since they're not really forthright on what they are looking for.

I was told that I did not get accepted as my application was not "competitive" enough to be in the top 20. I have all As and 1 B in my prerequisites. I have over 100 hours of volunteer experience along with extensive work experience. I had great references as well as a good resume.

What am I missing here? I was told that there is an admission advisor who writes note that are kept in our files about what we need. I always though ---- was the person we were supposed to maintain contact with, apparently there is an actual advisor who reviews our file to make sure it has everything needed.

Where did you get the info that they are only accepting 20 student?

Thanks

I've applied to all three sites for APU and the nursing grad advisor told me that the person to talk to about what I am lacking is ----. I emailed her earlier this week and haven't heard from her. Is it better to call? I don't want to be pushy by emailing and calling a bunch but it is killing me not knowing what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

During my interview I was told that for Spring they have 20 spots for both SD and SB and around 200 applicants competing for each site. I think that they take more into their Azusa cohort, but I don't remember the exact number.

Hi all, I was wondering if anybody has ever applied to the nursing program in the high desert regional center, - if so is it easy to get into it or quite complicated as the other branches?

Are you all talking about the BSN or MSN program?

To everyone who wasn't accepted, may I ask for more specifics? I know one of you stated having all A's in prereqs with 1 B (exactly what I have), but what were your undergrad GPA's as well? What kind of work experience do you have specifically? What kind of volunteer hours have you logged? I'm only asking because I just submitted an application for Summer 2012, and I'm now getting more nervous than ever about not being accepted. I'm just really curious as to what everyone's stats look like, and if I'm even going to be seen as a "competitive" applicant as well.

Did you all keep in contact with your admissions advisors or anyone at the schools during the waiting period? If so, how often would you email or call to check on the status of your application?

Also, has anyone who was rejected made any effort to have their application resubmitted for review for the next term?

Thanks everyone!

I had all As and 1 B in my prerequisites. I had a 2.9 GPA in college, but I went to UC Davis, which is a difficult school and that was in 1997. In my last 60 units, I probably had a 3.9. Even though Azusa doesn't look at TEAS, I scored a 94%. I have 150 volunteer hours in the ER, 10 years of professional office and management experience, and I WORK in a hospital ER right now. I have another license issued by the state of California, I have 3-4 excellent letters of reference, and a resume that headhunters have told me is superb. My personal statement (from what others have told me) is thoughtful and well written.

The thing that really turned me off about Azusa, is back in 2009 they told me they'd accept me as long as I could get Bs in my prerequisites. I've done that, and then some. But now they've changed their mind.

They don't tell you how they rank applicants, which is another turn off. I know someone with worse scores than me (including college GPA), with no volunteer hours, and she got in for 2011.

Azusa is all over the place, and they really don't tell you what's going on. They told me to resubmit my app last year because I had a good chance. I did, and they said I wasn't competitive enough. I don't really know how much more "competitive" you could get. Also, I'm a guy.

Fortunately, I got into CSUSM, which from 2 years of the application process, seems like a much more focused, supportive program. With CSUSM, you're not playing the guessing game with admissions, like you are with Azusa.

I kept in contact with both the SD person R.D. and the Azusa person J.T. every month or so. J.T. was the one who told me that I should be getting in, but then couldn't even send me a reject letter or email. I had to initiate the contact to be told I wasn't competitive.

I got a call today... I got in for spring 2012 at the San Bernardino. Anyone else get in SB campus?
