Hello all,
I'm applying to APU's NP program this January and am sooo excited and nervous! I'm really trying to get accepted to start in Fall 2011 as I don't want to wait until spring 2012. This is my first choice (I've already applied to another school here) and I've GOT to get in! Is anybody out there waiting for decisions or has advice for the application process? I would've applied sooner, but they just implemented a rule where you have to have 12 completed credits for science, so I had to wait until grades got posted.
WOOHOO! CAN'T WAIT TO START!
Chiflavored,
I am not sure if you re referring to the USD (University of San Diego) School or the SD Campus for Azusa? But, with that, I have been to both. I was also accepted to the USD program, but decided although the campus is BEAUTIFUL, the cost was just out of this world. I want to become an FNP and if I pursued that at USD it would cost nearly $200,000 after all was said and done because they only offer a masters in CNL (So I would have to go back for FNP).
I too turned down Western for the main reason that it was located in LA and was the longest program of all, so that made it easy to pass up. In regards to the Azusa SD campus, yes its located in a business building. I was kind of bummed about that too because I like being on a "campus", but at the end of the day I decided I cared more about cost and what Azusa SD could offer me. I definitely was torn between attending a school with a "real" campus, but I reasoned with myself that I was able to experience a great undergrad and had my "campus" experience. The Azusa "campus" in SD is still pretty nice. I was able to get a little tour and everything is really new, so thats positive! Its also in a great central location in SD, which I love. Everyone there was very friendly and willing to answer any of my questions or concerns, which is something some programs were definitely lacking.
At the end of the day you just got to weigh out your pros and cons, then go from there. I was also able to speak with a current student and she was able to ease my mind a bit, but totally gave me her upfront concerns and issues with the program. Good luck with your decision and I definitely understand your concerns, I was torn for so long when deciding what program to attend.
You're right. At the end of the day it comes down to cost and quality of the education. I was accepted to University of San Diego and declined since.. well since it would cost so much for such little outcome. I do not want to be a CNL, then have to reapply to get my NP certification.
I'm happy to hear that everything in the SD campus is new and that everyone is very welcoming. I'm excited to hear from them. Thanks for putting my mind at ease =]
Hello,
I just finished my 1st semester at APU Inland Empire. I'd like to tell you that you don't need to buy the Pathophysiology book for first semeter med surg bc it is a different book that you need for your second semester Pathophysiology class. They list it as required but it is not even a good reference and that is what it is supposed to be used as.
don't give up, i was in your seat last year. i only applied to 2 schools last year and didn't get in anywhere, i was devastated and felt like a complete loser. this year, i got into 6 schools. don't give up! keep your head up and it will happen for you :)

I interviewed at the main campus in Azusa but I was applying for SD. She told me I should expect to hear from them by May 15th. I'm not too worried since the interview was very promising. We basically just went over my application and had a chat. Professor Phyllis (my interviewer) told me that SD has a new simulation program that they are very proud of, which I'm glad to hear because its one of the main factors that helps me to decide which school to go to. I've seen the one at USD and was very impressed. On the other hand, when I interviewed at Western U, their simulation lab looked very sad so I don't want to go there at all.
Anyway, has anyone been to the USD campus? I decided to googlemap it and... was not so impressed with the "campus." It's actually in a building in a plaza. I was expecting more? I know it shouldn't be important but for my master's I was actually looking forward to being on a campus interacting with different types of students. I'm currently accepted into University of Vermont (far, I know) and am very impressed with the campus. However, it's gonna cost me an arm and a leg for sure (for out of state, it's ~$1200 per unit!). Anyway, any input on the campus itself in SD? I haven't really seen any reviews..
Thanks guys
